North Shore Cemetery Historical Association Decorations and history of 26 cemeteries left above high water mark of Fontana Lake, Swain County, North Carolina.

Area known as Hazel Creek and the North Shore. With the settlement of the 1943 Agreement between the State of NC, Swain County and the GSMP, we concentrate on all the decorations of the cemeteries. We make sure there is someone to speak at each decoration, let everyone know to bring lunch or a covered dish to share, flowers to decorate all the graves in the cemetery, what time and where to meet th

e pontoon to carry everyone across the lake, meet with the Park Superintendent and NC Maintenance Crew about any concerns or needs we may have for the cemeteries and decorations, try to keep up with information on members and activities in Swain County, be available to go with any school group, reporters etc that might want to learn about the area, make sure headstones are in good shape and keep the history of the sacrifices made by the people who lived in the area alive today.
