FYI - Attention ALL 21st CCLC Project BURKE's Students!

The program administrators are implementing an initiative to improve students' weekly attendance and performance ratings. Starting this second semester of the school term (January 2026), there will be a $25.00 monthly raffle drawing to reward a student winner from each grade level. This process will occur at the end of every month of the second semester to reward students for their perfect attendance.

Students must be in attendance for each month to ensure their names are included in the drawings. The win-win scenario is that there will be three student winners every month, improvement in the student weekly attendance ratings, and overall students' academic success.

Greetings Parents/Guardians;

Happy New Year's Eve to each of you. As we begin the second semester of the academic school term, it is critical that students at Burke County Middle School take advantage of the opportunities available to them through the 21st CCLC Project BURKE Afterschool Program.

Currently, the program director and coordinator are requesting assistance from parents/guardians, school administrators, teachers, and preferably students to improve the weekly adequate daily attendance rates (ADA) regarding the participants enrolled in the program. When students are consistently in attendance, they are more likely to succeed.

To increase the program enrollment and improve the students' attendance ratings, the program coordinator is seeking to recruit additional students. There are currently available slots for interested students (6-8) at BCMS to enroll. If there are any students who can benefit from the services of this viable program, please reach out to me ( Dr. Jammey Kelly) for access to a student registration form. Should there be any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.

The 21st CCLC Project B.U.R.K.E Students journeyed to the Georgia State Railroad Museum today, Saturday, December 13, 2025. This was the program's first of several scheduled field trips of the academic school term. This field trip provided additional learning experiences outside the four walls of the classrooms.

These Burke County Middle School students, in the scope of Georgia Studies, were introduced to the national historic landmark (Savannah) located in the former central of Georgia Railway Shops, featuring historic railcars, an operational turntable, and steam/ diesel locomotive rides.

The key features and attractions involved the well-preserved antebellum railroad complex with a roundhouse, repair shops, 126-foot brick smokestack, displays of historic locomotives, railcars, model railroads, and steam-powered machinery that grasped the attention of the students.

Students also had the opportunity to ride the historic steam/diesel locomotive train. This adventure was awesome and provided students with valuable information about the historical aspects of Savannah, Georgia.

Project BURKE' s Staff is truly grateful that the students were given the opportunity to visit the Georgia State Railroad Museum.

The 21st CCLC Project BURKE Staff acknowledges the parents/guardians of the students who are enrolled in the after school program. November is declared as a celebratory month for engaging parents/guardians.

The Project BURKE Staff recognized its external stakeholders by hosting a Parent Engagement Event, which was held Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 5:30 PM. The theme of the event was entitled: "Family Escape Room Challenge."

Each teacher designed his/her content-based lessons and activities that were geared towards the theme. Those content-based lessons or activities consisted of ELA/English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Social-Emotional-Learning (SEL).

Parents excitedly entered the learning environments to partner with their children and compete with other families as a way to escape the classroom. Families gained grounds for freedom based on the number of correct responses they gave by answering content-related questions.

Parents/Guardians' names, as well as students' names were placed in two separate containers for a lucky student winner to receive a $25 Walmart Gift Card and a lucky parent/guardian winner to receive a $50 Walmart Gift Card.

The event was successful and the parents/guardians' participation was phenomenal. At the end of the escape room experiences, the families visited the Project BURKE Office for light refreshments.

It was a great feeling to witness genuine partnership, while building meaningful relationships and rallying around the support system to consistently provide students with the necessary resources to be successful.

The Project BURKE Staff humbly appreciated and embraced every moment spent with students and parents/ guardians at this successful event.

The 21st CCLC Project B.U.R K.E. Program hosted its second Saturday School Session today [November 8, 2025]. Students made a dedicated effort to attend the session to receive instructional support in ALL content areas, as semester one is only a month away from completion.

The Project B.U.R.K.E Staff collectively appreciates the parents/guardians and the students' regular content teachers for the exerted effort of communicating and networking to ensure our students were provided the necessary support and resources to be successful.

At the end of the Saturday School Session, ice cream was served to our attendees before dismissal.🍦 It was a successful session today, and students were able to get so much accomplished. Job well done staff and students.

In celebration of the 2025-2026 Lights On After School National Event, Ms.Tara Kirkland and her Sixth Grade Students were highlighted for such an amazing and captivating lesson aligned with the theme: "Lighting the Pathway Through a Futuristic Mindset."

The students utilized literary terminologies to write poetry based on the theme. They were also engaged in an interactive, competitive game in which the meaning or definition of words appeared on the Cleartouch Board in a moderately dimmed classroom.

The students provided answers to each prompt when called upon. If students correctly identified the words, they were given the chance to make a move on the glowing tic-tac-toe diagram placed on the floor of the classroom.

This competitive event assisted with the enhancement of students' literacy skills, as well as incorporating Jeopardy and Tic-Tac-Toe [two commonly-known games] into an interesting playing field for young, innovative learners.
