Antietam Historical Association

Antietam Historical Association Founded in 2006 to interpret the history of the region in Maryland and Pennsylvania drained by Antietam creek.

The Antietam Historical Association page is AHA's social-media outlet for dissemination of historical information and images, for announcing AHA events, and for recognizing the accomplishments of AHA and its fellows. The album "Picture of the Month" is its most popular feature.

The reservation deadline for the AHA Annual Meeting is Tuesday, April 21 !!! If you wish to join the fun and hear Mrs. Erin Di**le (pictured here at the old laboratory at the Maryland State Tuberculosis Sanatorium) present "Taking the Cure in the Maryland Mountains," please act now.

The event on Wednesday, April 29, is held at Fountain Head Country Club, Hagerstown, and is open to the public. The cost for the entire evening is $45 per person. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, exhibits, authors' tables, and live piano music by Sally Wolfe. A chicken dinner (or vegetarian alternative) follows at 6:30 p.m., after which Mrs. Di**le will make her presentation.

Sheeley (1919–1996; pictured here) will be the subject of the round-table discussion of this month’s “Third Thursday Biography Breakfast.” The breakfast will be held on April 16 beginning at 8:00 a.m. in Christine’s Cafe, downtown Waynesboro. The event is open to the public; but reservations are required, and each attendee must purchase breakfast from the cafe. "Taking the Cure in the Maryland Mountains: Dr. Victor F. Cullen and the Maryland State Tuberculosis Hospital" will be the feature presentation at Antietam Historical Association's thirteenth Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Mrs. Erin Di**le, a Maryland librarian with close personal ties to the hospital, will be the speaker.

The event is held at Fountain Head Country Club, Hagerstown, and is open to the public. Reservations are required and must be made no later than Tuesday, April 21st.

The cost of the meeting is $45 per person and includes a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, live piano music, and exhibits. A chicken (or vegetarian alternative) dinner will be served at 6:30, followed by the feature presentation.

"The Tragedy of Sheriff George Swearingen" will be the topic of discussion when the Potomac Street Irregulars (PSI) meet on Tuesday, March 10, in the Parlor House restaurant, Waynesboro. PSI Jim Shockey will lead the discussion.

The event is open to the public; but reservations are required, and each attendee must purchase dinner from the restaurant and settle directly with the restaurant.

"Third Thursday Biography Breakfast" will meet at Christine's Cafe, downtown Waynesboro, on February 19, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. The event is open to the public, but reservations are required. Please make reservations with AHA (and not the restaurant) no later than noon on Tuesday, February 17th. Each attendee settles for his meal directly with the restaurant.

The subject of the round-table discussion will be Dr. Robert Bahner Brown (1894-1986; pictured here), longtime Waynesboro physician and chief burgess/mayor of the town.

This month's "Third Thursday Biography Breakfast" will focus on Dr. H. C. Bridgers (1885–1965), longtime Blue Ridge Summit physician and bank president. The breakfast starts at 8:00 am on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Christine's Cafe, downtown Waynesboro. The event is open to the public, but reservations are required by calling 717.762.2006 no later than 2:00 pm on Wednesday. Attendees order from the menu and settle individually with the cafe.

Dr. Bridgers is most noted for his successful treatment of Spanish Flu patients in 1918–19. Here he is pictured in 1947 and in an earlier doctors' group photo (third from left, front row) snapped in front of Waynesboro's Hotel Anthony Wayne.
