As many of you know or have seen, things are changing for us here at Wayne County Cares for multiple reasons.

I don't want what we were doing here on this page to stop as our community is amazing at helping people that need things. Soooooo ..... there is a long standing Facebook group for our area that I'm going to invite you too. This group is for people looking for things or for those that have things to give away. It's called a buy nothing group -- that means items that are posted are free and those looking for items, are needing them at no cost.

This is a very hard post to make for several reasons, for everyone involved behind the scenes as well as myself. For the past 2 years, we have been blessed to be able to provide our community with many resources, events, and help. We have been able to help 100s of families with holiday meals, provided over 50 students with back-to-school basics, hosted many free events in the community, and provided over 100 families with items, food, and assistance for their families.

I, Kim, had the vision to be able to provide a space for our local community to receive assistance, have events, and be able to provide for their families all supported by others in the community. We did this for 2 years and had fun while we did it! I met so many amazing people, saw so many great stories, and heard successes from both the families we helped and those helping. I am proud to say that this is Wayne County and blessed to be able to call it home.

However, almost 2 years ago, I had a health scare and was diagnosed with MS, as many know. Unfortunately, it’s progressing faster than I would like and not allowing me to do things that I would love to continue to do. With the deterioration of my health, I have to make some tough decisions on what I can do with the usable time I have in a day.

With this comes the hard decision to shut the doors to Wayne County Cares and its programs. Some of the programs will live on with other hosts or me working with others to keep them going, but for the most part, we will be shutting the programs down. I will be contacting some people about taking on the events that they are a part of to keep them going.

The yard sale for Sept and Oct will go on as planned since it’s already scheduled, and Social Sunday will continue with Jack’s Shack and Sweet Treat HQ taking over the official hosting role. All of the items donated to The Store in Waynesboro will be given away at dates to come (I’ll make the post so everyone can find it) and we will make sure the items get to homes where they are needed.

Green River Baptist Church has a food pantry- it is open Monday- Thursday 9am-3pm. You can call 722-5828, you can set up an appointment and we will have it ready, or you can drop by anytime between those hours.

We have five blessing boxes in the area:

So as some of you may know, when The Store in Waynesboro was created, it was going to be a pay as you can general store. Clothing, housewares, food, cleaning items, etc. It was going to allow those who needed something to get that item, while helping others with what they could financially, as all money was going to go back in The Store. However, as we weren't able to find a building that we would be able to use, it changed to what we know now..... donations taken in, posted, and given back out.

Well, our Wayne County community has been extraordinarily generous, and we have a ton of donations. With that in mind, we are going to pivot back to along the lines of what it was originally meant to be.

We are working on dates, but we will be hosting free events within Wayne County where you can shop/dig/look/see what items are available, yard sale style. There will be someone at the event or a box for you to put any money in to donate to Wayne County Cares. If you can't spare anything financially, it's 100% ok! Come get what you can use! If you can spare a $1 or $2 or $5, great! If you have a million dollars and just don't have anywhere else to spend it, amazing! This will allow us to move more items into hands that need them, without selling the items that were donated to us.
