I Don't Trust My Ways!
Proverbs3:56
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
People have often said scriptures like this one; familiar Bible verses, just as words off the top of their heads; I know, because I am guilty of doing the same thing at times. Whereas we rarely stop to consider whether or not we are loyal to the words we are pledging.
I think sometimes we become so used to reciting the Bible that we often miss the life and truth that comes with it.
Using the word of God when it’s convenient, memorized, or rehearsed; instead of using it in the way God intended so that we might gain access to its Divine Value and Power. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” (Pro 3:5-6).
Hold on a second! Let’s meditate on those words for a moment, “trust in the Lord with all thine heart,” trusting in something or someone with all thine heart means putting all of our faith and security in that particular entity.
For example, oftentimes children put their trust in their earthly parents and so they have complete confidence in their integrity and ability to take care of them. This is often established throughout the relationship, thus providing the child with a sense of knowing that the parent is going to do what is best for them.
Likewise, when we quote this scripture we are to have a greater mindset toward our heavenly Father, which means we need to have complete and total confidence in His will and ability to do what is best for us. God’s integrity and character speak for itself, God is Love and His love for us is never-ending. To trust God, we must first have a relationship with Him; let’s be real when was the last time you really trusted someone you didn’t know?
Let’s Go Deeper
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not to your own understanding! When we say that we are trusting in the Lord without leaning to our own understanding, we are saying to God, Lord, “I Don’t Trust My Ways” but I do trust Your will for my life. There is no room for anxiety or worry upon surrendering our understanding in exchange for His. This means entrusting our complete being to the sovereignty of God and His Divine purpose for our life.
You see, “leaning not on your understanding” means to seek God’s will first, before trying to decide based on your own understanding of a matter. We have to let go of the “I know it all” attitudes and let God do His thing! I often hear people say things could have been better had I done it this way or that way, but to tell the truth, if we would just seek God’s understanding instead of our own, the less we will find ourselves in bad situations.
This takes us to the following words in Proverbs 3: 6 “In all your ways acknowledge Him.” This is to admit that His existence is present in our lives at all times. It is our trustworthiness in God that brings us into the reality that He is Lord over our lives. Furthermore, it is to recognize that our hearts are enthroned to Him-As it is He
Who governs our steps from day-to-day.
Indeed, “He shall direct our path,” when God created us He already knew the path we would take, the Holy Spirit has been given to us to lead us in the direction of God. The pathway of God is straight and unwavering. Whenever we are going off the path God has intended for us, the Holy Spirit gives us a nudge (right away) to bring this to our attention. We then have to decide if we are going to lean to our own understanding or God’s.
Note: There are always consequences that come with ignoring the Holy Spirit.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (Ps 37:23), staying on the path that God has planned for us means to obtain complete victory and to overcome the evil things of this world. God knows exactly where we are, and with Him leading our steps, we are bound for greatness(:
Let Us Pray
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for allowing your presence to be a part of our daily walk. Lord, we ask that our life will be governed by your wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. We humbly bow our hearts to You and admit that we don’t trust our ways and need the leading of your Holy Spirit. Help us to acknowledge Your presence in our lives at all times. We ask that You direct our steps and keep us in a place of humility and gratitude toward what You continue to do in our lives. We love You Father and Thank You for hearing our prayers in Jesus’ Name –Amen.
