Born to Run 5K

Today would have been the 11th Annual Born to Run 5K benefitting the Bruce Eckrote Memorial Fund. As a great deal of planning and preparation goes into each year's event, we realized several months ago that this would be our first "off" year after 10 consecutive years. Although there is no actual event taking place today, the reasons that our family undertake this still remain. Our efforts each year let us continue our annual scholarships, make donations to both Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and Hackensack University Medical Center, and support local families in need. As September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we also call attention to the need for continued funding, as several of our past beneficiaries have been children. Sadly, our last year's beneficiary, Henry Aulenbach, passed away in November. While there is no virtual event planned, we plan to continue our scholarship for the Class of 2021 and if possible make donations to the other causes so very important to our family.

The Wayne PBA is again participating in No Shave November. Honored to have them support the Bruce Eckrote Memorial Fund once more by having Officer Jay Clemente pay it forward... click on the link and let's help our Wayne police officers raise money for us and for 3 year old Nikolas Serenkov of Wayne being treated for neuroblastoma.

Wow, the 10th Annual Born to Run 5K was another huge success! We’re so grateful for the incredible turnout today and all our supporters both in person and remote. Your generosity and continued support are greatly appreciated. We were honored to be joined today by so many of our past benefactors, along with the Aulenbach family! Together we raised a great deal for our important causes. Thank you to everyone, and stay tuned for race results and pictures to be posted shortly!

Tomorrow is the 10th Annual Born to Run 5K! Amazing cause, perfect forecast, and great day ahead!

Online registration closes at 12pm noon today. You can still register in person tomorrow starting at 7:30am, but we highly encourage online registration to beat the crowd!

2019 is a special year as we're holding our tenth 5K to honor and remember Bruce, and support important causes in his memory. We are extremely grateful for all supporters over the years -- from our dedicated runners and walkers, unwavering sponsors, generous donors, and tireless volunteers. We can't thank you enough for keeping Bruce's legacy alive and supporting our special causes!

Since 2009, together we have raised over $130,000. We are honored to announce the 2019 beneficiaries:
This year we will be supporting Henry Aulenbach & Family. Henry is a wonderfully sweet 7-year old who was recently diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a rare brain cancer. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy after having surgery to remove his tumor. We want to support Henry and his family as they journey towards Henry's recovery, which is a long process. Henry has two older twin brothers and is the son of Anthony Wayne Middle School Principal, Mr. Dave Aulenbach.
We will continue to fund two Bruce Eckrote Memorial Scholarships at Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills High Schools to support graduating seniors.
Continue contributing to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, both supporting oncology patient and family care.
