Giving Day 202: THANK YOU, Wildcat Family!

We are thrilled to share that Wayne State College’s sixth annual Giving Day was a record-breaking success, raising more than $156,000 in just 24 hours! 🎉

This incredible milestone reflects the power and generosity of our alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and supporters who came together from near and far to make a difference. Because of you, we can continue to support student scholarships, academic programs, campus initiatives, and Wildcat athletics, changing lives and strengthening our college community.

Your gifts, of every size, created a lasting impact, and the momentum built throughout the day showed just how special the Wildcat community truly is. 🐾

The Wayne State Foundation is seeking a talented fundraising professional to step into the role of Director of Major Gifts and help continue the important work of advancing Wayne State College.
This is a key position within our team, focused on building strong relationships with alumni and friends and securing impactful philanthropic support that benefits our students, programs, and campus.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about higher education and excels at:
✅ Cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors
✅ Developing strategic fundraising initiatives

At our commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9, we were honored to present the Alumni Achievement Award to Don and Diane Soukup. The Alumni Achievement Award is given to an alumnus/alumna who has achieved outstanding success in his or her career and/or through community service and has supported Wayne State College.

Don and Diane (Massman) Soukup, proud 1971 graduates of Wayne State College, exemplify the values of hard work, perseverance, and lifelong achievement fostered at WSC. Both worked their way through college, Don returning to complete his degree and Diane graduating in less than three years, setting the tone for their future success.

They built distinguished careers in the insurance industry, advancing from claims adjusters to leadership, sales, and business ownership, while simultaneously serving in the U.S. Army Reserve, with Don retiring as Sergeant Major and Diane as Master Sergeant. Their entrepreneurial spirit also led to the creation of a highly successful real estate enterprise, growing from a single property to a portfolio of 46 properties across California and Nevada.

For nearly four decades, the Soukups have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to Wayne State through scholarships and service. Their support has grown from five to 11 annual scholarships, expanding opportunities for students, and their leadership includes long-standing involvement with the Wayne State Foundation.

Their journey - from humble beginnings to remarkable professional success - reflects not only business excellence, but also a deep dedication to service, family, and giving back.

We are proud to recognize Don and Diane in their achievements and are grateful for the example they set. Please join us in congratulating Don and Diane on this well-deserved honor!
