Stewart White – AWS, NWS, ASMA (and so many other initials but really, who keeps track)
Stewart White is an artist from Easton, Maryland. He works as freelance illustrator specializing in architectural illustration. The flexible nature of watercolor painting can impart both precision and illusion, for that reason it is extremely useful in conveying as yet unrealized concepts with great efficiency. Besides illustration, Stewart is always out and about painting “en plein air” or in studio.

Come discover the surprising history of how landscape painting, once confined to the artist’s studio, moved out into the open air. This talk will consider the work of artists, some forgotten today, responsible for transforming landscape painting from a minor, marginal genre subject to a platform for personal expression. Explore this fascinating story with Bill Perthes and celebrate its ongoing impact in the Wayne Art Center
William Perthes is an educator, author, and curator. He is the Bernard C. Watson Director of Adult Education at the Barnes Foundation. Bill has a background in philosophy and art history and is the author of “The Barnes Method” included in the recently published The Barnes: Then and Now. Much of Bill's work focuses on how experiences with works of art, both short and long term, can impact and inform fields as varied as business, medicine, law enforcement. and restorative justice. Bill is the curator of Faces of Resilience a traveling exhibition of original works of art created by currently and formerly incarcerated artists at the State Correctional Institute Phoenix. In addition, his scholarship has focused on American Modernism with a special concentration on the Abstract Expressionist painter Robert Motherwell. He is the former Director of Education for the Violette de Mazia Foundation.

Join Caleb in the garden as he paints the flowers in bloom. He will walk you through his approach to building a picture, beginning with drawing in larger shapes and building up layers until he has a crisp, detailed interpretation of the subject. If weather is unpleasant, we will meet inside.
Caleb Stoltzfus began learning to draw and paint at an atelier under Nelson Carlin in 2008. He received a BA in Art from Covenant College in 2015 and studied landscape painting and composition under Daud Akhriev from 2016-2017. He completed the Mount Gretna Studio Seminar in 2023. Stoltzfus is based in Philadelphia and has exhibited his paintings and sculptures throughout the Midwest and North East, including group shows at Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, Procession Gallery in Philadelphia, Art at Kings Oaks in Newtown, First Street Gallery and Pushup Gallery in New York, as well as internationally at the Hampstead Society in London. He had a solo show in Philadelphia at Gross McCleaf. This is his fourth year participating in the Wayne Art Center Annual Plein Air Festival.
