On December 6th, 2023, Shelly Gill started her day like any other. She got herself and her son ready for a hospital appointment and noticed no warning signs that her life was about to change forever.
After returning to her car, Shelly blacked out — and woke up four weeks later in a neuro hospital.
She had suffered two ruptured brain aneurysms and a stroke. During her recovery, she had to relearn how to walk and talk, while also coping with the emotional and physical aftermath of surviving a traumatic brain injury. Doctors also discovered two additional unruptured aneurysms.
Through months of rehabilitation, determination, and strength, Shelly worked toward her goals of driving again and returning to work. Today, she continues to navigate invisible disabilities including memory loss and cognitive challenges — reminding us that survival stories often continue long after leaving the hospital.
Her honesty sheds light on an important reality: many survivors may “look fine” on the outside while carrying life-changing challenges that others cannot see. 🐝💛
