About Cub Scout Pack 185
In Cub Scout Pack 185, each meeting is designed to help the kids have fun, while learning new skills, and earning new awards, which are presented at our quarterly Awards Ceremonies. Our goal is to see that the Scouts are advancing in Rank, learning valuable lessons, regularly trying new things, and participating in fun Scouting events, while building relationships with their family, friends, and their community, all at minimal cost to the individual Scout and their family.
At our meetings, the Scouts regularly take part in fun games & crafts. Meetings are always designed to be educational experiences, whether we study history, find out about safety, or just learn to play a new game or sing a new song. Plus, wood working, knot-tying, leather working, science, physical fitness, sports, nutrition, conservation, treasure hunts, archery, bb-guns, sling shots, swimming, games, contests, tournaments, quarterly awards ceremonies, ice-cream and pizza parties are all a part of our year-round program.
In addition to our regular meetings (which are held every Monday night at the Wayne City First United Methodist Church), our pack also hosts fun (optional) weekend events for the Scouts and their families to take part in. These have included a Saturday Morning Hiking Program, Pack Field Trips, a Winter Lego Derby, a Spring Pinewood Derby, a Fall Raingutter Regatta, Fishing Tournaments, Family Camp-outs, Cook-outs, Science Day, Conservation Day & Outdoor Game Days, First Aid Training Courses, and Summer Camps, including Cub Scout Twilight Camp and Cub Scout Adventure Camp. Plus, we always try to organize these events around other youth groups' schedules, because the Scouting Program can be supplemented by participation in other sports and activities.
Some of our field trips have included making pizzas at Domino’s, a field trip to the St. Louis Zoo, Cahokia Mounds, Mammoth Cave, St. Louis Science Center, the Cache River Nature Fest, a tour of the Wayne County Press, the Wayne City Fire Department, and The Vine Radio Station, several roller skating events, bowling events, hikes at Sam Dale Lake State Park, Beall Woods State Park, the Cache River State Natural Area, Rend Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area, Devil's Prop State Wildlife Area, Fort Massac State Park, Ferne Clyffe State Park, and through the Cedarhurst Sculpture Garden. We are able to cover the costs for many of these activities for our Scouts, through the money we raise during our annual fundraisers.
