At Home and Afar

At Home and Afar At Home and Afar is a non-profit organization, delivering volunteer medical and humanitarian services to families in need in and outside the United States.

The original At Home and Afar group was assembled after the devastation of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, when four women driven by passion and an extensive background of volunteering recognized a need to give back at an international level. They sought out and identified groups of under-served critically injured earthquake victims and stepped in to deliver crucial medical care and transportation to h

undreds in need. They felt that they could do more and began to formalize their self-start efforts. Three went on to decided that the efforts of their organization would be two-fold. First, the team continued their international efforts and set up a medical clinic in the Barahona region of the Dominican Republic. At Home and Afar gathers groups of local doctors, nurses, and volunteers, to run the clinic four times a year. In addition to medical attention, the group distributes clothing, toys, glasses, and toothbrushes, as well as sponsors and participates in laying cement flooring to homes that need it. This past year At Home and Afar has taken on its biggest project and is working on the construction of a well that will provide clean water to the entire community. The second part of the At Home and Afar mission is focused on supporting local charities and women’s shelters. At Home and Afar regularly donates clothing and food, as well as fills the Christmas wish lists of children living in the shelters.
