Hello Everyone - big news to report! The mechanical harvester for w**d management that was approved at spring Town Meeting has been purchased and was delivered last week! The photo below was taken on Dudley Pond, with Nathan Walcyk (Alpha Boats, on the right) training two DPW staff on its care and feeding, while DP neighborhood resident Steve Garone (left) videos for posterity. This was a team effort: Committee member Norm Marowitz led the project, Select Board member Carol Martin presented the article at TM, Asst. Town Manager John Bugbee handled the contract and purchase. Thanks to DPW Director Tom Holder and his team - Mike Wilson, Steve Moscella, Todd Henry, Jason Richards, Larry Merrell - who will be taking on the daily and seasonal responsibilities of harvester operations.

Thank you to Wayland residents for approving the FY '23 capital expenditure budget at this weekend's Annual Town Meeting, which included money to purchase a harvester for w**d management (you can see video of one in action in the timeline from 2019).
Huge thanks to Norm Marowitz on the Committee who identified an available harvester and pursued multiple strategies to effect its purchase, and Carol Martin on the Select Board who championed the cause and had it included as a line item in the capital budget article.
While primary use is expected to be on Dudley Pond, there is potential for use elsewhere. Once purchased and under Town ownership with operation by the DPW, the SWQC and other stakeholders will have flexibility not previously possible when contracting and coordinating with external vendors for mechanical w**d harvesting.
These next steps are on the agenda of the SWQC meeting this coming Tuesday, the 17th, at 7PM.
