The Wayland Garden Club is accepting new members! Whether you’ve been gardening for years or unable to keep a houseplant alive, joining the Garden Club is a great way to connect with other gardeners and add a new layer of purpose to your hobby. The Garden Club offers lectures, workshops and a strong sense of community. Wherever you are in your gardening journey, from planting your first raised bed to landscaping a back yard to a dawning interest in native plants, come share your passion with like-minded people.

On the fourth Tuesday of the month, the Club membership meets for coffee and conversation followed by speakers presenting on many different topics. You are invited to attend one of our upcoming monthly programs to see what we are about.

On Tuesday, January 27 at 9:30 am, Laura Mattei, Director of Conservation at Sudbury Valley Trustees will provide an overview of the land management and stewardship work that SVT does including information about habitat management projects that promote native plant restoration and how to support wildlife in your own backyard.

On Tuesday, February 24 at 9:30 am, Kim Smith will share her documentary on the life story of the Monarch butterfly from Cape Ann to the heart of Mexico’s volcanic mountains with an emphasis on the symbiotic relationship between habitats, wildflowers and pollinators. The film will be followed by a Q&A session.

If you are interested in attending one of the programs or would like more information, please email [email protected].

Now is the time to remove invasive garlic mustard before it goes to seed. Garlic mustard is a threat to the biodiversity of our native ecosystems. This plant gains a foothold in forests and fields by emerging in spring earlier than native plants and outcompeting them for moisture and nutrients. A good time to pull garlic mustard is after it rains making it easier to get all or most of the tap root. Be sure to throw it away in the garbage - do not compost.
