Every dancer, family, teacher, and studio owner has limits on how much time, energy, and money they can put towards the dance experience.

Having limits doesn’t mean dance matters any less to them. It simply means they have to decide which opportunities they can realistically take part in.

When we produce an event, some expenses are necessary and some are choices. Every expense we add affects both what the event costs to produce and, ultimately, what it costs the people who want to be there.

All of that makes one question especially important: Is this expense adding enough value to the experience to justify what it costs the people who want to be there?

That is something Taplife Hero Foundation considers with every event we produce.

With LIT 🔥 Tap Dance Experience, we put that thinking into practice by focusing our resources on the parts of the experience we believe can have the greatest impact, while reducing the expenses that don’t necessarily add meaningful value to the core experience.

Being thoughtful about production costs can make it more affordable for people to attend. That means more people getting to learn, perform, connect, and join the community we’re building together.

Affordability, to us, isn’t about making the experience smaller. It’s about being more intentional about what we ask people to invest in order to participate, while respecting their limits.

Great experiences should not cost more than they have to.

If that resonates with you, we’d love for you to join us.

Registration is now open for LIT 🔥 Tap Dance Experience in New Jersey and North Carolina.

We’re also continuing to work through the details required to bring LIT to New York and Connecticut.

Spending a full weekend at a dance convention or competition can be very meaningful, but it also requires a significant amount of time from everyone involved. Dancers, parents, teachers, and studio owners all have to arrange their schedules around a three- or four-day event.

That commitment can make participation harder than it needs to be.

A focused one-day dance event can give dancers access to education, performance, and community without requiring the same financial and logistical commitments that often come with longer events.

At Taplife Hero Foundation, we think carefully about how much time we ask people to dedicate to the events we produce. That philosophy helped shape LIT 🔥 Tap Dance Experience as a one-day event.

The goal is not to make the experience smaller; it is to remove unnecessary barriers so more people can be part of it.

You shouldn’t have to give up your entire weekend for a great dance experience.

At LIT, you don’t have to.

One of the most important investments anyone ever made in our work came in the form of a dance floor.

Before we became the nonprofit organization Taplife Hero Foundation, we were a performing company called Company.

The O’Mara family saw what we were trying to build and understood what we needed as tap dancers. Ed O’Mara donated a sprung wood floor that gave us the ability to perform on a surface designed specifically for tap dancing.

That gift changed what was possible for us. We could produce larger shows. We could include more tap dancers. We could create more opportunities for artists to perform and be paid for their work.

I fell in love with these floors. I have often called them the Stradivarius of tap dance floors because of the way they respond, resonate, and allow each and every sound to be heard.

The O’Mara family did more than donate equipment. They invested in tap dancers and the opportunities we were trying to create for them.

They understood the assignment.

Tap dancers deserve to be heard.

Investment. Opportunity. Community. Legacy.

That investment is still creating opportunities for tap dancers today.

If you would like to be heard, come experience these floors for yourself.

From the beginning, one of the things we deeply desired for Taplife Hero Foundation was to create meaningful opportunities for people to experience tap dance.

LIT 🔥 Tap Dance Experience grew out of that desire.

It was created as a place where dancers can learn, perform, connect, and spend time in an environment built with intention.

That intention shows up in the details: the length of the event, the cost of participating, the way people register, the floor we dance on, and the opportunity to perform and be recognized.

None of those decisions happened by accident.

Our goal is not simply to produce another event. It is to create an experience that respects the people who choose to be part of it and the art form that brings us together.

Registration is now open for LIT 🔥 Tap Dance Experience in New Jersey and North Carolina.

We are also continuing to work through the details required to bring LIT to New York and Connecticut.

Beginning Monday, we will start sharing some of the experiences, lessons, and decisions that shaped LIT 🔥 Tap Dance Experience.

Tap deserves more.

Consistency matters as much as what we choose to do after we lose our momentum.

Life doesn't always cooperate with the plans we make. On occasion, life simply gets in the way. It may be a few difficult days, a few difficult weeks, or even a few difficult months. It can be tempting to see that loss of momentum as proof we failed.

It isn't.

Missing a step doesn't erase the distance we've already traveled. Life has taught me that the best thing I can do is come back with conviction, remember why I started, and keep moving forward.

I try to hold on to that, especially during the seasons when moving forward feels harder than it should.

What's something that tends to interrupt your momentum, and how do you find your way back?

Some opportunities change what we do, but the right investment can change who we become.

Most of us look back and remember someone who saw something in us before we fully saw it in ourselves. A teacher who gave us another chance, someone who introduced us to the right person, or someone who believed in us more than we believed in ourselves.

Those moments don’t usually end with us. The people who benefit from them often become the same people who create those opportunities for someone else.

That’s one of the reasons Taplife Hero Foundation exists. Not simply to create opportunities, but to help create the people who will one day create opportunities for others.

Investment. Opportunity. Community. Legacy.

Who invested in you in a way that still shapes your life today?

Every art form needs people who are willing to think beyond the next class, beyond the next performance, and beyond the next grant.

An art form grows with intention because each generation accepts responsibility to leave it stronger than they found it.

Sometimes that means teaching, sometimes it means performing, and sometimes it means strengthening the connections within the community.

Strengthening within allows growth beyond.

That is a truth Taplife Hero Foundation exists to embrace.

Where do you believe our tap dance community needs the greatest investment?
