Our parishioners on pilgrimage visited the site of a famous Eucharistic miracle in the town of Lanciano. In the eighth century, during a Mass of a Basilian monk who doubted the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, the host was changed to live flesh and the w**e to live blood upon the words of consecration. The Flesh and Blood are preserved in the Santuario del Miracolo Eucaristico.

The flesh and blood were analyzed by scientists in the 1970s. They confirmed that the Flesh and Blood belong to the human species, and that the flesh consists of the muscular tissue of the heart. Father Peter celebrated Mass in the chapel through which you can see the reliquary.

The group arrived in Rome and had dinner with Deacon Victor Baez, one of our parishioners who is studying in Rome and is scheduled to be ordained a priest next June.

The next stop for our pilgrims was a short bus ride to Cascia for an overnight stay in the town to visit the tomb of St. Rita.

The rain did not stop parishioners from participating in our annual blessing of animals. St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us!

On the solemnity of St. Francis of Assisi, it was a full day for our parishioners on pilgrimage. There was the option of attending a midnight Mass at the basilica. They visited the basilicas of St. Francis and St. Clare, the church of San Damiano (which houses the crucifix from which St. Francis heard the voice of the Lord asking that he rebuild His Church), the hermitage (a place of retreat above the town for St. Francis and his monks), and a visit to the relics of St. Carlo Acutis.

We are blessed to have our own in Assisi!

Our pilgrims had Mass in the famous cathedral in Orvieto. While staying in Assisi, they are taking a day trip to Siena before celebrating the solemnity of St. Francis in Assisi on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of his death.

Deacon John, Father Peter, and our parishioners on pilgrimage have arrived safely in Italy. They spent their first afternoon on a walking tour of Rome.

On this memorial of the Guardian Angels, pray for them as they head toward Assisi and stop by the beautiful cathedral in Orvieto to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
