🚲 NICA New York GRiT Fundraiser & Clothing Sale 💗

This year’s GRiT jersey is a little different. Throughout the season, our girls were encouraged to draw, doodle, and share their artistic abilities. We took all of those sketches and brought them together to create this season’s GRiT jersey.

The result is a jersey that is truly theirs, filled with bikes, flowers, trails, inside jokes, and all the things that make GRiT special.

We also have a coordinating GRiT sports bra available in women’s sizing. The jersey and shirts are available in both men’s and women’s sizing, so guys, this one is for you too! Coaches, dads, brothers, teammates, and friends can order a jersey, wear it proudly, and show their support for the girls and for GRiT.

A portion of every sale supports NICA New York GRiT, helping us continue to create opportunities for girls to ride, build confidence, find community, and have fun on bikes.

Get one for yourself. Get one for your favorite GRiT rider. Or get one to show your support. 💗🚲

What a pretty great year for New York GRiT! As we wrap up the 2026 season, we’re still smiling about everything that made this year so special. Four race weekends, incredible venues, and somehow we hit the weather jackpot. Blue skies, great trails, and plenty of opportunities to spend time with our mountain bike family.

This was a record-breaking year for girls in New York. It is pretty amazing that girls made up 34% of our 5th-grade racers, 26.5% of all racers, and 25.5% of registered riders across the league. More girls than ever are discovering the joy, confidence, and friendships that come from riding bikes.

One of the highlights of the season was seeing teams and the league host Give it a Go events all over the state, giving new riders the chance to experience what this community is all about.

A huge thank you goes out to the Saratoga Shredders, CNY Sharks, Rochester Youth Cycling Club, the Mountain Goats, and Grey Ghost Composite for hosting the GRiT Tent throughout the season. Each team put its own personality and pretty amazing creativity into the experience, making every stop unique and creating a welcoming space where student-athletes could connect, laugh, and just have fun. You helped make GRiT feel like home no matter where we raced.
And what a community it is.

Across all four races, we saw teammates cheering for competitors, riders picking each other up after tough days, and friendships forming between families from every corner of the state. Some of the best memories weren’t made on the podium; they happened in the pit zones, during pre-rides, and sitting around camp chairs and the frisbee field long after the racing was done.

We’re building confidence, friendships, and leaders. Thank you to every rider, coach, parent, volunteer, and supporter who made 2026 one to remember.

See you on the trails next season!💜

An unexpected and impromptu highlight of the 2026 NICA race season was shoe painting at the GRiT tent! Our student-athlete artists did an incredible job giving our NICA fam’s footwear some serious flair. 💙 We’d love to share more of their designs, so DM us a snap of your shoes!

Flipping the Script: What Happens When You Build a Team Around Girls First?

Check out this month’s National Interscholastic Cycling Association Trailhead to read about NICA New York Mountain Biking’s very own Saratoga Shredders.

“What happens when girls are not just included, but centered? When a team is built around their experience, their voices, and their growth? The result is something powerful. Confidence. Belonging. Leadership. Student-athlete Talia Hodgson from the Saratoga Shredders shares what it has meant to grow up in a girls-first mountain bike program. Her words are honest, energizing, and a reminder of what is possible when we intentionally create spaces where girls can truly thrive.”

Talia says “Because Shredders has so many girls on the team, I don’t have to worry about feeling out of place when going to practice. I know it’s a safe space to talk about my female experiences, and I know I will always be greeted with kindness. I feel comfortable expressing myself, and I don’t have to worry that I’m being too much when I come to practice, which girls in male dominated places often feel. Being able to go to practice and talk to my friends motivates me to be a better athlete and keep showing up everyday…

…A female-only space allowed me to hone my skills in a supportive environment. The confidence I gained while being surrounded by other women and girls was able to be transferred out into the “real world”. I am able to take my confidence to races and to group rides but take this confidence with me everywhere I go. I feel that I can assert my opinion on board meetings and participate in class because of the confidence Shredders has given me. Being surrounded by my best friends at practice everyday has given me a supportive place to grow and learn and become a better athlete as well as a better person.”

What happens when you mix NICA values, student-athletes, volunteers, and a whole lot of fun? 🎉

Last weekend at Thacher Park, student-athletes and adults put their knowledge, teamwork, and creativity to the test through the Game of Trails: Are You Smarter Than a Volunteer?, Code of Conduct Charades, Penalty Box, and Star Points!

While we laughed, competed, and maybe acted out a few very questionable charade clues, these activities helped reinforce the values that make our community so special: Fun, Inclusivity, Equity, Respect, and Community.

A huge THANK YOU to The Mountain Goats, Maddie Hanna, and the rest of our student-athletes volunteers for serving as our lead facilitators and helping make these activities such a success. They lead stations, encouraged participation, and kept the energy high.

The result? Lots of smiles, great conversations, and a stronger understanding of how we all contribute to a positive, safe, and welcoming race weekend experience.

Now we want to know...👇

Girls belong in mountain biking. At practices, start lines, Give it a Go events, hanging around the pit zone, helping younger riders, cheering for teammates, and laughing around camp chairs after long days on the trails.

This year, our league saw a 71%  increase in new girl riders, and nearly 40% of our 5th grade racers are girls. That’s incredible. Not because of the numbers themselves, but because of what they represent: girls finding confidence and community.

These girls are learning how to lead, how to encourage, how to push themselves, and how to make space for others to belong too. They’re showing up with strength AND joy by bringing sparkles to the trails, convincing teammates (and boys!) to wear tutus and glitter watts, creating games, cheering the loudest (and kindest), and proving that mountain biking can be competitive, supportive, fearless, and fun all at once.

They are changing the culture of mountain biking simply by showing up as their formidable selves. They are paving the way for the girls coming next. ✨
