Waverly Central Varsity Tigers Fight Back In Loss To Lewis County

Despite a 7-run deficit in the fifth inning, Waverly Central Varsity Tigers almost came all the way back, eventually falling 11-9 to Lewis County on Friday. Waverly Central Varsity Tigers closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a single, a single, a ground out, and a ground out.
Waverly Central Varsity Tigers were the first to get on the board in the first when Maddox Tanner induced Brodie Davis to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Bryce Spann singled to right field on a full count, which helped Waverly Central Varsity Tigers tie the game at three in the top of the fifth.
Lewis County flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Hamm that drove in two.
Waverly Central Varsity Tigers scored five runs on two hits in the top of the seventh inning. Lucas Wilson singled, scoring one run, Brennan Dilley singled, scoring two runs, Damesworth grounded out, scoring one run, and Logan Harbison grounded out, scoring one run.
Damesworth led things off on the bump for Waverly Central Varsity Tigers. The starter gave up four hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Tanner started the game for Lewis County. The hurler gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking five.
Damesworth, Dilley, and Davis each drove in two runs for Waverly Central Varsity Tigers. Davis led Waverly Central Varsity Tigers with two hits in five at bats. Dilley led Waverly Central Varsity Tigers with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game.
Lewis County accumulated nine hits in the game. Hamm led Lewis County with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Jaxon Long, Phenix McDonald, and Kegan Carroll-clayton each collected two hits for Lewis County. Carroll-clayton stole two bases. Lewis County stole five bases in the game.
Waverly Central Varsity Tigers will travel to Christ Presbyterian Academy for their next game on Saturday.
