This initiative is being sponsored and coordinated by the Waveland Community Coalition in response to the need for a clearer picture of where we are going and how we will get there. The CDDG is acting as a Steering Committee to develop direction and guidance for three distinct areas of concentration: 1) Business Development & District Revitalization, 2) Community Design & Beautification Oversight
and 3) Promotion & Marketing of the district. Our present committee representation has the necessary "skill sets," experience and knowledge to make a difference. To date, the CDDG has taken action in each of the 3 areas of concentration. To encourage revitalization we have completed a 7-page survey that has been sent to 130 district property owners with a third having been returned. The survey attempts to determine availability, intented use and desire to communicate with interested developers and investors by those property owners. This information, combined with the city's existing Coleman Avenue Zoning District Ordinance, proposed and crafted by the Waveland Community Coalition, will allow us to better determine a direction for marketing and promotional efforts. The Waveland Community Coalition assisted in setting design standards in the Coleman Avenue Zoning District Ordinance which was submitted and approved by the City Board. A Design Review Board was created to ensure compliance with the standards set forth. We are updating a Comprehensive Signage Plan and are in the process of raising funds for that project. Each year we have overseen the "Annual Great American Cleanup" event to fulfill requirements for the city's certification as an affiliate of the "Keep America Beautiful" program. Our promotion and marketing efforts have created 2 festivals (WaveFest and OysterFest) which allow us to "bookend" destination events in April and October. This year we sponsored a "Waveland Snowflakles On The Avenue" lighting to begin the holiday season. We, also, sponsored 2 venues of entertainment at the city's "Festival Of Lights" Christmas celebration. It's good to be able to feel the enthusiasm being generated from all the wonderful things happening in our Coleman District.
