St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac worked together for 35 years to improve the lives of all those who suffered from poverty or rejection by society and to reveal the great love of God for all to them.

St. Louise De Marillac
SAINT OF THE DAY
St. Louise De Marillac (1591-1660) was born in Paris, France to a noble family and received her education at a Dominican convent. Her mother died shortly after her birth, and her father when she was sixteen years of age. It was then necessary for her to decide her vocation, and being dissuaded from entering religious life by her spiritual director, as was her desire, she married and bore a son. Later she worried that she had rejected a divine call to the religious life, and vowed that should her husband die, she would not remarry. Two years later her husband died after a long illness. During this time she met a holy priest, St. Vincent de Paul, and placed herself under his spiritual direction. Through his influence she worked among the poor and disadvantaged in Paris, and co-founded the Sisters of Charity with him in 1642. After writing their rule of life she traveled around France establishing her new religious order to work in hospitals, orphanages, and other institutions that aided the poor. She was especially gifted at spiritual guidance and served as the superior of the Sisters of Charity in Paris until her death. St. Louise De Marillac is the patron saint of social workers, the sick, widows, and against the loss of parents. Her feast day is March 15th.

We at Society of St Vincent de Paul, Waveland, Mississippi Paul are not called to meet our neighbors in an office but in their homes. It's not a business meeting but a personal experience. Christ met those in need where they were.

The Home Visit brings with it the understanding of a friend, the welcoming smile, and “to the bread that nourishes, it adds the visit that consoles.” [O’Meara, 229] Far from “culpable indifference,” we “must never take the attitude of merely getting the task done.” [SWLM, 773] Instead, as our Rule demands of us, we give generously of our time, our talents, our possessions and ourselves. [Rule, Part I, 2.5.1]

We’re not called to write checks. We’re called to love our neighbor. That’s the difference.

St. Vincent de Paul, St. Clare Conference held its 1st Annual Thanksgiving Meal for our neighbors who have come to see us.

The families were invited to come to St. Clare Catholic Church and enjoy a sit-down meal that was cooked by members of St. Clare Conference. The meal was served by members of St, Vincent de Paul, and St. Clare parishioners.

Also, St Clare Conference gave meals to 17 families. The turkeys and groceries with it were donated to St. Vincent de Paul, St. Clare Conference by St. Clare Knights of Columbus Council 16433 / Assembly 3837 and St. Clare parishioners.

It was a blessing to fellowship with our neighbors who came to St, Vincent de Paul and to support our community with fried turkeys and groceries.

"I pray that God himself will be the strength of the weak and the virtue of the strong and the prayer of those who are unable to pray."-Vincent de Paul.

Please donate to our Disaster Relief Campaign — to support local Councils and Conferences around the world so they can continue to serve those hit by disasters after the news cameras have packed up and left, and the world forgets them.

To donate now, go to https://ssvpusa.org/disaster-2022

We know disasters are going to happen this year. They've already hit hard. There’s no way around it. But your gift to our Disaster Relief Campaign will help make sure we’re ready – ready when disaster hits, and still able to long after.

A disaster can happen anywhere, including your community. Do you have the resources to respond — and keep responding — for as long as there is need?

With funds from the Disaster Relief Campaign, you will. And just as you won’t abandon your neighbors in need, the National Council will be ready to give you the help and support you need, too.

That’s what this is all about: Staying strong, together, to make sure we all have the resources we need. When we need them. To be the hands, the face, and the caring heart of Christ in our communities, and around the world.

As I’m sure you know, the Society is active in 150 countries. Only a few National Councils are able to fund the Society’s efforts in response to crisis situations. That’s why our National Council is one of the ones called on to go this “extra mile” for those who need it most.

Now is the time to give as you feel led. Use our secure, convenient giving page:

https://ssvpusa.org/disaster-2022

Thank you for your service to Christ and all you’ve done for our Society. You make all the difference — in times of disaster, and throughout the year. I hope to hear from you soon!

Yours in Service,

Ralph Middlecamp
National President

P.S. Your donation to the Disaster Relief Campaign will save lives. To donate to the Disaster Appeal, send a check made out to SVdP-USA, with "Disaster Appeal" in the memo line, to 66 Progress Parkway Maryland Heights MO 63043 or click here. May God bless you for your generosity!

Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul.

September 27
St. Vincent de Paul was born in Pouy, France on April 24, 1581, and was ordained a priest on September 23, 1600. Vincent devoted himself entirely to the alleviation of suffering of the poor. To that cause, he established the Confraternities of Charity, later known as the Ladies of Charity, in 1617. In 1625, he founded the Congregation of the Mission, his community of priests and brothers. With Louise de Marillac, he cofounded the Daughters of Charity in 1633. Vincent died in Paris on September 27, 1660 and was canonized in 1737. Pope Leo XIII declared him patron saint of all works of charity.
