These two little stinkers are settling in beautifully and their personalities are definitely starting to show!

Gretta has apparently decided she has a future in modeling. 😂 Put a camera in front of her and she’ll sit there looking adorable like she’s been doing photo shoots her entire life.

Gretchen, on the other hand…

Gretchen has places to be. 🤣
Getting a picture of that girl requires patience, speed and possibly professional sports photography equipment. 😂

They spent some time outside today exploring, playing and apparently discovered that an old tree stump makes the PERFECT puppy hangout. And somehow Gretta managed to turn it into her own personal photo studio. 🥹

These girls are sweet, smart, silly and becoming more confident every day.

Watching them learn, explore and just get to be puppies is one of the very best parts of rescue. ❤️

Our five newest German Shepherd babies have officially been part of the Deacon’s Hope family for almost a week, and as you can see… they’re settling in VERY well! ❤️

They’re happy, playful, ridiculously adorable and keeping their foster families on their toes. 😂

Of course, five growing puppies also means five times the food, vaccines, preventatives, microchips, spay/neuters and everything else that goes into preparing them for their forever families.

But puppies aren't the only ones your donations help. ❤️

The key to healing for these dogs is slow, steady weight gain. 🥹

Our sweet boy had another vet visit and he is doing GREAT! He continues to improve, gain strength and move farther away from the condition he was in when he first came to us.

Sometimes it's five healthy little puppies who simply need a safe place to land and everything necessary to get them ready for adoption.

Sometimes it's a dog like Ralph who needs time, medical care, good food and people willing to stick with him while he heals.

Meet Gretta... one of the newest little stinkles to join the Deacon's Hope family! 🥰

Today is about the reason we're here.

The puppies just beginning their lives.
The seniors who deserve comfort and love.
The broken ones who need healing.
The scared ones who need patience.
And every dog in between who simply needs someone to say, “You're safe now.” ❤️

For more than 21 years, that's been the heart of Deacon's Hope Rescue... giving dogs a safe, clean, loving place to land while they wait for the families they'll call their own.

They don't know about bills, paperwork or any of the complicated human stuff.

They just know kindness.
They know a full belly.
They know a soft place to sleep.
And, they learn what it feels like to be loved.

🥹 WATCH UNTIL THE END. 🥹

We’re pretty sure this little girl has already figured out her new job at her foster home: official baby soother. 😂❤️

And for those who have followed us for a while, you may remember Katie! Katie is one of our longtime foster moms who took a little break for a pretty darn good reason... she had a human baby of her own! 🥰

Now she’s back from “maternity leave,” with two very young human kiddos at home... because apparently life with two little humans just wasn’t chaotic enough. Obviously, she needed a German Shepherd puppy too. 😂🐾

But THIS. 🥹

Baby starts fussing and that sweet puppy immediately goes over to check things out. And just wait for the end... 😭❤️

These are the little moments that make fostering so special. This puppy isn't just hanging out waiting for her forever family. She's learning about family life, little kids, household noises, big dogs, love, patience and all the things that will help her grow into an incredibly amazing dog.

And Katie & Joel... we are SO happy to have you back! ❤️

Although after watching this, we're beginning to think the puppy may be doing some of the babysitting. 😂

🚨 PUPPY PSA — THESE ARE NOT OUR PUPPIES! 🚨

We've had several people reach out after seeing the post from the Henry County Dog Warden & Shelter, thinking the puppies they found might be the German Shepherd puppies that recently came into Deacon's Hope.

We promise... they are NOT ours! 😂

All five of the puppies that came into our rescue are accounted for, safe and sound, and currently with Deacon's Hope fosters. ❤️🐾

The puppies pictured in the Henry County post are a completely separate group of pups who were found and are currently on their required stray hold.

We appreciate everyone being concerned and looking out for our babies... but nobody escaped, nobody is missing, and all five of our little stinkweeds are exactly where they're supposed to be. 😂❤️

🐾 FOSTERS OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT HOMES NEEDED! 🐾

Our 5 newest little German Shepherd gremlins are safe and settling in! ❤️

Now we'd like to get some of these kiddos into individual foster homes where they can start learning all the important puppy things... potty training, manners, socialization and, apparently, that 3:00 a.m. is NOT an appropriate time to announce that the ceiling is falling. 😂

We are looking for foster homes OR foster-to-adopt homes for approved families who may be interested in making their foster puppy a permanent member of the family.

🐾 German Shepherd experience is a plus.

🐾 You must be prepared for all the fun AND work that comes with raising a German Shepherd puppy... including puppy teeth! 🦈😂

🐾 ALL Fosters MUST be able to transport their puppy to Brannan Veterinary Clinic in Maumee, Ohio for scheduled veterinary appointments.

PLEASE NOTE:
All dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered before leaving the care of DHR. We do pediatric spay/neuter. We understand there are differing opinions regarding the appropriate age to alter a dog; however, after 21 years in rescue, DHR's policy is and will remain 100% spay/neuter.

No dog or puppy leaves our rescue unaltered. There are NO exceptions to this policy. If pediatric spay/neuter is something you are not comfortable with, we completely understand, but fostering or adopting one of these puppies will not be the right fit you.

Deacon’s Hope Rescue covers all approved veterinary care while a dog is in foster. Foster families provide food, basic supplies, transportation to veterinary appointments, a safe home and lots of love. Fostering is a volunteer position and is not paid.

Fostering truly saves lives. Every puppy who moves into a foster home opens up space and resources for another dog who needs us. ❤️

📍 Northwest Ohio / Toledo area and surrounding communities preferred due to veterinary requirements and the puppies current location.

Meet Jax! 🐾❤️

Calling all scruffy-dog lovers… have we got a little guy for you! 😍

Jax is 2½ years old, 33 pounds, and sporting some of the finest naturally occurring bedhead we’ve seen in a while. 😂 This ridiculously cute little guy is playful, snuggly, housebroken and an all-around wonderful companion once he has a chance to settle in and get to know you.

Jax can be shy and unsure when he first meets new people. He likes to take a little time to observe before deciding you belong in his circle. But once he warms up? You’re in. ❤️

In fact, Jax tends to choose one person initially and becomes pretty attached to them. As his confidence grows, so does his personality—and sometimes his voice! He may bark at unfamiliar people once he's feeling brave enough to let everyone know he's there.

At home, Jax has a great balance of playful and professional napper. 😂 He loves playing with toys, enjoys romping around with other dogs and is always happy to settle in for some snuggles afterward.

Jax is housebroken, sleeps through the night and can be left home for extended periods without a problem. He is not currently crate trained, so a family who doesn't require crating—or is willing to patiently introduce one if needed—would be ideal.

He gets along well with other dogs and is not possessive or aggressive about food. Because he enjoys playing and can be an active little dude, he may be a bit much for a senior dog who would prefer a quieter roommate.

Jax also has good recall, rides well in the car and has been a champ for his personal-care routine. He behaves beautifully at the vet for things like vaccines and nail trims and does well for baths and brushing, too.

Basically, Jax is a sweet, scruffy little character who might need a minute to trust you—but once he does, you'll have one very devoted little shadow. 🥹❤️

🩺 Jax's Vetting

Jax is neutered and microchipped and has received his age-appropriate vaccines. He has been heartworm tested and receives heartworm prevention and flea & tick prevention.

🐾 Adoption fee: $600

📍 Adopters should live within approximately a 6-hour radius of Toledo, Ohio.

🏡 Meet and greets can be arranged with an approved adoption application.

Some adoption days just hit you right in the heart. 🥹

Today our sweet little Rocky officially became a member of the Helmke family! And if they look a little familiar… there’s a very good reason. 😉

This wonderful family has adopted from Deacon’s Hope before... that gorgeous white German Shepherd sitting right there beside them is one of our former rescue babies too! ❤️

There is something incredibly special about seeing an adopter come back to us when they’re ready to add another dog to their family. It means more than we can possibly put into words.

And this time, they chose Rocky. 🥹

Our adorable little visually impaired guy may see the world a little differently, but that certainly hasn't slowed him down. He's sweet, cuddly, curious, and now he has a family who already knows just how special a Deacon’s Hope dog can be.

Rocky didn't just find a home today.

He found family, German Shepherd siblings, and people who were already part of ours. ❤️

Congratulations to Rocky and the Helmke family! We couldn't be happier for all of you.

🚨🐾 SURPRISE PUPPIES INCOMING!!! 🐾🚨

Sooooo… we’ve been keeping a little secret. 👀😂

There are currently FIVE 9-week-old German Shepherd puppies IN TRANSIT to Deacon’s Hope! 🥰🐾

Yep. Five. 4 girls- 1 boy

We had no pictures.
We had no idea what they were going to look like.

We just knew five little stinkweeds needed somewhere safe to land.

So naturally…

SEND ’EM! 😂❤️

Our amazing transport crew volunteers have them loaded up and they are ON. THE. WAY. 🚗💨

And somewhere between Walhonding and us right now are five tiny German Shepherds who have absolutely no idea their whole lives just changed. 🥹❤️

They’ll need time to settle in, get checked over, start their vetting, and show us exactly how much chaos five puppies can create. 😂🦈

They are NOT available for adoption yet. We’ll introduce everybody properly once they arrive and we get to know them.
