Hello, Badger State Game participants!
We are so excited to have you come and play. There are a few odds and ends that need to be addressed. We will try to cover all of the basics.
The address of the Wausau Tennis Centre is 928 McDonald Street Wausau, WI 54403. McDonald is a one-way street for two blocks, and you may not turn down it off of Grand Ave.
Parking may be a challenge especially during the turnover times. We will likely have to use McDonald to park.
We will try to allow some warm-up time prior to your event starting, but this will be dependent on the prior event running on time. Please plan to arrive only a half an hour before your scheduled event.
There will be no standard format because of the wide variety of numbers of teams in different brackets. Some may be straight round robins, some may be round robins feeding into a single elimination bracket, some may be playing best 2 of 3 games. What we can tell you is that you will get at least 5 games and some as many as 12 or 13 games. We are dedicated to making sure we can get you the best experience possible.
Please note that there is no specific "senior singles" events. All participants in singles will be an all-age endeavor. We did not have enough senior singles registrants to be able to hold those brackets.
You may bring your own food and drink but the only thing allowed on the courts is water in a well-sealed container. There is a lounge available if you need to store a cooler. Some light snacks and bottled water will be provided. We will have mats on the side of each court for chairs and bottles of water. Please keep the chairs where they are originally set up and keep the water off to the side to prevent spills.
Safety glasses and OS1st socks and compression sleeves will be for sale near the entrance to the courts. *New this year are specific plantar fasciitis socks.
Coats, street shoes/boots/and other bulky gear can be stored in the locker rooms. There are also bleachers courtside on the first two courts.
IT WILL BE COLD. The courts tend to only be about 60 degrees. If you are not playing, you will want sweatshirts, pants, and maybe even a blanket. Please communicate this to anyone coming to watch you play.
Access to courts further down from the entrance will be behind the curtain. Please do not walk across courts with play in progress.
Locker rooms and showers are available, you will need to provide your own towel.
Please make sure you have dry, clean shoes to change into and if you have friends/family coming, please also make sure THEY have clean, dry shoes to wear.
Remember to bring gently used tennis/court shoes to donate to WAP. The donations will go to support the homeless population here in Wausau.
Sportsmanship is a key principle at Badger State Games Pickleball. At each session, we will hold a drawing for gift cards based on nominations for good sportsmanship by spectators and fellow athletes.
We will be using Franklin X-40 optic yellow balls. Please refrain from wearing yellow shirts.
