Nine members of EAA Chapter 640 made the trip to EAA - The Spirit of Aviation AirVenture grounds in Oshkosh today to help with the EAA weekend work party. Our group spent the day working on flooring for the new youth center space on Celebration Way.

It was a long day in the sun - a lot of measuring, hauling, and building - and a great reminder of how much volunteer effort goes into creating spaces that will introduce future generations to aviation.

See you again soon, Boeing Plaza... You'll look a lot different when we come back in July!

Last year we ran an Armed Forces Day community event with the mission of Honoring the Past and Teaching the Future. We hosted a Youth Video Essay Contest, the winners of which would receive a ride on the B-25 Miss Mitchell. We also pledged to send 22 others, veterans, volunteers, and students (many of whom fit more than one category) on flights in historic aircraft from Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing, including the B-25 and the BT-13 Valiant.
The event was sponsored by Kocourek Chevrolet with support from Wynn O. Jones and Associates and anonymous donors.
We had an incredible weekend, unfortunately shadowed by high winds and rains that kept our fly-in visitors from attending - which is always a possibility in aviation. Our riders were so gracious in patiently waiting and last weekend, we got to finally fulfill those rides. What a weekend it was.
We are honored to have had the chance to support these flights and see history honored in such a tangible way. Thank you to all of our members, volunteers, and supporters, to Learn Build Fly for being our hosts and teammates, to Wausau Flying Service, Inc./Wausau Downtown Airport for graciously juggling a busy day with us, and Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing for coming out with these incredible aircraft and volunteers.
We look forward to sharing history and the future together with you at Wings Over Wausau next month!

Thanks Mike for sharing, for Learn Build Fly for being our ever gracious host and teammates on the ground, Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing for bringing the birds out, and Wausau Flying Service, Inc./Wausau Downtown Airport for working with us for a safe, smooth and very busy day. What a treat. This is the way. EAA - The Spirit of Aviation

Reminder: No gathering this Saturday, instead, join us the following Saturday, May 16th, for a Young Eagles Rally (starting at 9am) and Gathering (noon) to hear from the Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing and see the B25 and BT-13.
This gathering is our chance to focus on our FUTURE and all extra funds gathered from lunch donations will go towards our RAY SCHOLAR program!
To date, we have supported 5 students through Private Pilot Certificate with the Ray Scholar program, with one more closing in on this huge achievement and two students just starting! We've also been able to support additional students through other scholarships, study groups, and materials.
This is a major achievement! We are proud to support flight training for our student members.
Come out and hear more on May 16th!
