The police department has received several reports of a black bear and cub in the 700 block of Forest Street. If you are out walking in the area, please consider using an alternative route. We want to avoid causing additional stress to the bears and help keep everyone safe.

Officers are aware of the situation and are monitoring their location. Please give the bear and cub plenty of space and do not approach them.

Thank you for your cooperation and helping us protect local wildlife.

“The Trump administration said that people with temporary visas seeking to adjust their immigration status to obtain green cards must return to their home countries to “do so through consular processing,” in a major change from current practice.

A statement from a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesperson said that those who come to America on non-immigrant visas, including students, temporary workers and tourists, are expected to be in the United States for a short time and for a specific purpose.

The move is the latest by the Trump administration targeting legal immigration in the country.

Today, on May 14, we honor Hmong-Lao Veterans Memorial Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the incredible contributions and sacrifices of Hmong and Lao veterans, specifically during the Vietnam War.

These brave individuals played a vital role in the struggles for freedom and peace, often at great personal cost. Their courage and dedication to protecting American values before they became American citizens should never be forgotten.

Thank you to all Hmong and Lao veterans for your unwavering commitment and sacrifice. You are remembered and appreciated!
