Update on Sherman
The little guy passed away early this morning. I begged him to stay, but his little body couldn’t do it. Although he had been diagnosed with colic, there had to have been a more serious underlying issue that had been going on for a couple of months. We tried our best to figure out what was going on with the little man.
There is a lot of death when you run a rescue and retirement home for animals. It is always difficult to say goodbye to these very special beings… But sometimes when I sit with them, I tell them that I love them, thank them for loving me, and that it is ok for them to go now.
Sherman was different, I begged him to stay- I told him that Ozzy and I needed him to stay on this earth a lot longer. Last night, he stopped nickering when he saw me, and I knew that today would be a tough day of decisions. Either to haul him into the clinic (his balance was off so I was hesitant to do that) or to make even tougher decisions. I thank him for not having me make that choice.
Sherman truly was a gift. He was adorable, gentle, sweet, funny, chatty, and teeny tiny. He lived alone for many years and when he came to Razorback he had the longest, grown out hooves I had ever seen.
He was Mama’s (mini horse who was blind) caregiver until her death in January.
Then Ozzy- the beautiful, blind, gentle giant became Shermy’s roommate, patient and best friend. Ozzy is so big that Sherm could walk underneath him (or maybe it was that Sherman was so tiny).
Sherman was loved by everyone who met him- humans and animals. He was one in a million.
As my dad would say “He is in that great pasture in the sky now”
I love you, Sherm ❤️💔
