Dear Community Members,

Due to WUCMAA’s current circumstances, Project Resiliency’s warmline will no longer be operated until further notice. We understand that the warmline has been vital for individuals seeking comfort and support. For those in immediate need of assistance, we encourage you to reach out to the following resources:

- National Su***de Prevention Lifeline: Call or Text 988 (Open 24/7)
- Hmong Family Strengthening Helpline: 1-877-740-4292 (Open 24/7)
- Uplift WI: 534-202-5438 (Open 7 days a week from 12 PM-12 AM)
- Other local mental health services and hotlines

Additionally, it is with deep regret that we announce the cancellation of the WUCMAA Hmong Mental Health Summit, scheduled for June 21-22, 2024. Despite our best efforts and extensive planning, WUCMAA’s current circumstances have made it impossible for us to proceed with the event as planned. Please see the attached official statement on behalf of WUCMAA’s leadership.

We understand the importance of this event to our community. The summit was designed to be a vital gathering for discussing critical issues surrounding mental health within the Hmong community, providing resources, support, and a sense of solidarity. We are fully aware of the disappointment and inconvenience this cancellation may cause, and we sincerely apologize for any disruptions this decision might bring to your plans.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Maliya and Brad.

Sincerely,
The Project Resiliency Team

✨𝑺𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑩𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕✨
Whether you're seeking beauty services or aiming to provide them by taking a mentorship program, PLee Beauty, LLC can assist you!

Birdie Lee, also known as Pa’Koulajp, is the owner of PLee Beauty, LLC in Weston, WI. Her business offers gel nails, lash extensions, permanent brows, body contouring, and fine-line tattoos. Additionally, she offers mentorship programs covering lashes, fine-line tattoos, and entrepreneurship. Driven by a passion for nails and a desire to break free from the traditional 9-5 life, she began as a nail technician and eventually became her own boss. Over the years, despite almost wanting to quit, she honed her skills, built a loyal clientele, expanded her business and has been operating for 7 years.

𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 & 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬:
Like many small business owners Birdie struggles with slow seasons, fluctuating sales, and the uncertainties in owning a business. She is reassessing her marketing strategies and how to address economic challenges such as rising supply costs while ensuring the accessibility of her services. Despite those challenges, she considers successfully navigating her business through its first year and moving into her own storefront within five years of operation as some of her most significant accomplishments.

𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬:
Birdie’s biggest goal is to purchase a building for her business so that she can freely manage it and be able to bring her dogs with her to work. Additionally, she also aims to put together a capable team to run the business efficiently on their own. This will allow her to be able to transition into more of a managment and mentoring role so she can focus on supporting/training others.

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐞:
“Don’t do it alone. Find a circle or community of people that will provide you with the resources and support that you need to grow.”

Thank you, 𝐏𝐋𝐞𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐲, 𝐋𝐋𝐂, for interviewing with WUCMAA!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌-𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 is a 3-in-1 studio that offers yoga, meditation, and dance sessions located in Appleton, WI. 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫, Owner of the studio, opened her doors on January 15, 2024, but has been a previous yoga instructor at Appleton and Neenah’s YMCA. Due to the limited spots available there, she decided to open her own studio to offer more classes to the community. Aside from yoga and meditation, what sets The M-Effect apart from others is providing Bollywood and Bhangra dance classes for adults and children, alongside a strong emphasis on mental and physical well-being.

𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 & 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬:
Some challenges were marketing strategies and introducing Bollywood and Bhangra to the public. Some successes were that many of Mahima’s previous students from the YMCA have continued to follow her new journey, and their health has improved significantly! Another success is having close friends and family sincerely care for their health and wellbeing.

𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬:
The M-Effect plans to search for a group of committed practitioners for her yoga and meditation classes. Another short-term goal is to increase her exposure and gain more Facebook followers.

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫:

Capture your stories through visual representation with Create With Mia Photography!
𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐚 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲 is a portrait and event photographer in the Greater Milwaukee Area. She offers photographer sessions for individuals, couples, families, and events. She is currently interested in Branding Photography, so for small businesses, if you're interested, connect with her by messaging her on Facebook!
Mia, like most photographer stories, started with her love for photography. She's always the girl with the camera, taking photos for memories. She never thought she would make the step to become an official small business owner with an LLC, but here she is today! Mia wished that someone had taken photos of her memories and milestones. So she knows how important that is to her, and she's sure that other people feel the same way about their memories and stories. She wants to be that person for someone else. Moments can fade and pass quickly, but if you capture a photo of it, you can have something tangible forever.
𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐚 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲's interpretation of photography is unique because she has many styles that she loves. She loves moody, sentimental, timeless, true-to-life, candid, and documentary photography. But storytelling is the most important factor that Mia focuses on - the feeling you want to convey in your photos, the emotions that you feel or that you want others to feel when they see your photos, and the story behind why you need photos matter the most to Mia.

𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔:
One challenge that Mia has is imposter syndrome. She feels that way because she is always wondering if her work is good enough or what her new clients think of her. She wants the world to know that having these fears is okay because, as a small business owner, you are paving a path no one has walked yet. You are not living the typical 9-5 life - you own your career and can do whatever you want. Also, since she is a new photographer, she is trying to avoid comparing her work to other photographers. Photography, just like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. As for her success, her first paid session was an individual self-portrait session. Weeks before the shoot, she constantly went over her ideas, poses, how to navigate the location, lighting, camera settings, etc. The day came around, and she had the best time ever! It was a smooth and easy shoot; she had so much fun, and the photos turned out great. Although this may seem small to other experienced photographers, she says that as a beginning small photography business, small steps eventually lead to significant steps. There is no one way to success; success looks different for everyone.

𝑮𝒐𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆:
Mia's goal for the future is to get into cinematography/videography for events. She thinks this is a huge goal, and to accomplish that, she needs to focus on honing her photography skills in the next 1-2 years and then slowly dabbling into film. Since videos and photos are two separate skills to learn, having the ability to do both would make her business more appealing to her clients.

𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒐/𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔:
Mia is working on a passion project called: LOVE KNOWS NO GENDER, AGE, RACE OR RELIGION. She is looking for 5+ couples in the Milwaukee area who are either in same-sex or in*******al relationships, have an age gap of 10+ years in relationships, have different religions, etc., to do a FREE photoshoot and short 10-minute video about their relationship. This is a way to promote love and something bright and uplifting to the community. To apply and more information, please visit her website: https://createwithmia.mypixieset.com/love-knows-no-color/

This week, our Marketing Team attended the Wisconsin Economic Development Association's Basic Economic Development Course in Eau Claire, where we gained tremendous valuable knowledge about Wisconsin's resources, workforce, community, strategic planning, and more. Thank you, WEDA, for hosting a successful and informative training session to enhance our communities collectively!

We also attended Hmong Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce's networking event in Eau Claire, which aligned perfectly with our plans. It was great seeing familiar faces and meeting new individuals!

A new beauty shop has recently opened up in Sheboygan, WI. Make sure to check out BeautifulLee Studio!

At 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐋𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨, current services include permanent make-up, teeth whitening, and teeth gem application. With permanent make-up services, they only provide eyebrows and lips. Each procedure is specialized to the client's wants and needs and ensures the best fitting and most natural results. Be on the lookout for more services in the future!

Amanda N. Lee, a Sheboygan PMU (Permanent Make-Up) Artist, owns 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐋𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨. Last year, she had the fantastic opportunity to take Pang Vang LLC's PMU course, which opened the door to the beauty industry for her. Amanda loves how she can provide services to ladies who are low-maintenance and lasting, which led her to create 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐋𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨. As she is still growing and learning every day, she can't help but thank her clients, family, and friends enough for their continuous support throughout her journey. It has officially been one month since her opening up!

𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔:
As 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐋𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨 has just been in business for a month, her biggest challenge is time management. Since there is so much to do, time seems to fly by! As this is a side business for Amanda, she finds it challenging to promote her business and build her clientele as she works another full-time job. She wholeheartedly thanks her significant other for easing her worries and encouraging her during her lowest! Despite that, Amanda's success comes from the satisfaction and happiness of her clients after their appointment!

𝑮𝒐𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆:
In the next 3-5 years, Amanda's goal for 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐋𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨 is to grow within the beauty industry by providing services to enhance the beauty within ladies! Not only does she want 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐋𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨 to be her safe place, but she also wants it to be a safe place for her beauties where self-love and confidence can flourish!

✨ 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍𝑳𝒆𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒐: ✨
During Amanda's first year of college, her sister once told her, "If I did not give up yet, neither should you." It just stuck with Amanda ever since. She wants to pass her sister's sisterly advice on as a motivation to never give up, be proud of every little milestone, and keep on going forward!
