Asked what she'd want fixed first in Kenosha:

"Making sure there's no food deserts in Kenosha."

Then transportation. Then health care. Basic things. A list that isn't ideological in any direction — it's just what a place needs to be a place where people can live.

And then she named the actual problem:

"Rallying together for things that we want. And then we've seen time after time, they [enact] policy that is not in the best interest of the people."

It isn't that people don't know what they want. It isn't that they don't show up; they show up, they rally, they organize. And then the decision gets made somewhere else, by someone else, and it isn't the thing they asked for.

This is the second time on this tour someone has told us, unprompted, that showing up isn't producing results.

Which is the entire reason we're building an organization where the members decide the agenda. Not the staff. Not a board. Not us.

"We just got to make sure we take care of one another."

"I actually find it a blast to go to No Kings rallies. You're with like-minded people."

"But what are they doing beyond that? They're getting a lot of people to go, but what are they doing beyond that?"

As stated by our interviewee, No Kings Rallies are great for showing up, but after the streets clear and everyone heads home, that momentum is lost.

But our Radio Ad was different.

"You already know my political leaning. But that doesn't mean I have an issue with someone who may be Republican and at least sees that our country at this point is just stacked with the money."

We don't have to agree on everything to see the economic instability within America.

She has health insurance and still can't get health care.

"I could go to the urgent care and have it covered any single day. I could get most procedures covered. Most of my medication covered. But I don't have access or transportation to these things."

Her local clinic couldn't do the procedure she needed. They didn't have the imaging equipment. The nearest place that did was Milwaukee. She couldn't get to Milwaukee. So after three failed, unmedicated attempts, she stopped trying to get the care she needed.

A farmer forty miles from a soon-to-be closed rural hospital and a Kenosha woman without a car are having the same problem in two different voices.

Coverage isn't access and Insurance isn't guaranteed care.

"When I was 18, I could work no more than 24 hours a week for $11.35 an hour to keep my state health insurance."

Read that again.

Not "I chose part-time." Not "I couldn't find the hours." She was capped. Work one hour more, earn one dollar more, and she loses the coverage that keeps her alive.

"While I may have health insurance, I have never financially been anywhere near the level my peers have. And I probably never will catch up for this reason."

That's the benefits cliff. A system that says: we'll help you, as long as you promise not to get ahead. It's why "just pick up more shifts" is advice that literally does not apply to millions of working people.

She isn't asking for a handout. She's asking for permission to work.

As she put it, "It can be so much better."

"Most kids stay on their parents' health insurance until they're 26. Not me."

Raised by grandparents on Medicare, Kyle was unable to maintain health insurance coverage when he turned 18, since his grandparents were not allowed to keep him on their Medicare plan as an adult.

Unfortunately this is a loophole in the most popular provision of the Affordable Care Act, the one both the left and the right agree on: keeping young people covered until they're 26.

"So I haven't had health care for most of my adulthood. I've had it from jobs sporadically, basically."

In response, someone said: "It's sad to see that in 25 years, my peers and I are still navigating health care and can't afford their daily medication."

Then: "I'm sure we all didn't expect to be living in such a struggle and such a survival mode."

The Wisconsin Farmers Union rep opened with a disclaimer: "We're less versed in a lot of urban issues." She represents the voices of farmers in rural communities, describing what rural Wisconsin is like. From hospital coverage to a lack of affordable coverage, farmers have to drive at least an hour to receive care that used to be just ten minutes down the road.

"There's an incentive to place those health care facilities in the most economically viable places."

"Health care, maybe it's a topic that kind of bridges that rural and urban ideology."

We're here to tell you that it does.

"We lose family farms every day in Wisconsin."

These are the direct words of a farmer sitting across from us in Kenosha. While the acres remain, "family" farms are owned by fewer and fewer families, and more by corporations. "It isn't politics. It's stratification of resources and access to resources. That's the root."

That's the reason why we're doing this listening tour. This isn't about left vs. right; this is the top vs. bottom, the 1% against The Working Majority.
