UPDATE: McAlester Police confirm the man they are looking for is 26-year-old Preston Wittington, who is two years into serving a sentence for multiple felony convictions, including kidnapping and burglary.

BREAKING: Oklahoma Highway Patrol said an inmate recently escaped from Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester.

I declare that I as Sheriff will never attempt to un-arm the constitutionally armed citizens of Jefferson County. An attempt to disarm them would be an act of civil war in my eyes. I stand firm on this, I ask other elected officials to declare the same.
