Heroes' Hunt For Veterans

This weekend we've got 3 Wisconsin Veterans as our guest's . Jim Liedtka from Neilsville, Ronnie Mitchell from Milwaukee, and Matt Eckstein from Oshkosh. We also have a HHV Alumni Jacob Ishi back to guide all the way from Washington state. Friday stated slow with deer being seen but no shots taken. Saturday morning we took Matt and Jim out to Jim and Mary Jo Pfiefer's property to do a little pheasant hunting, Bear did awesome putting up 4 roosters, there were no survivors, lol. And tonight Jim put the smack on a big old doe , guided by Another of our Alumni Bill Sornson in the Wings Over Wisconsin property. We did have a Very lucky Buck get away unscathed tonight, there is a lot of room around them, lol. So we'll see what tomorrow brings! Till then Go Brewers !!!🇺🇸

 Well friends weekend 3 is a wrap. A lot of fun was had. The highlight of the weekend was our Veteran guest from Arkansas. Will March got a nice big doe guided by Veteran Nick Pergande. The fish didn't want to cooperate again this weekend with only Veteran Bob Malliet from Oshkosh got a dandy! Our other Veteran Shawn Kahler from Iowa, passed on several doe hoping the big boy they watched Saturday afternoon making a scrape line would come back but no 😢. As always everyone ate a ton of good food. The Veterans also went to Wild Wings Sporting Clays by Cambellsport for some shooting. Now all our volunteers get to take a week off , charge our batteries and get ready for the next 3 weeks. Thanks you as always to our Veterans, the guides who give up their time, and to everyone behind the scenes doing so much of the necessary things to make this a success. 🇺🇸

We usually do steaks on Saturdays for our veterans and guides but thanks to one of our veteran friends John Kempen who hunted with us last year and wanted to provide a meal he bought 6 full racks of ribs that I put on the smoker for 7 hours. They were a big hit. Thanks John Kempen

Well week two is in the books, sadly for us no deer were harvested, but fun was had by all , the Vets got to experience duck hunting out on an island on Lake Sinnisippi , and got to bow hunt some extremely good land, but sometimes the deer don't cooperate, but hunting is about the time spent outdoors with fellow Sportsman who share the passion of sunrise and sunset. We finally remembered to take a group photo. So lots of things going on this weekend. Last night I had the privilege to guide Army Veteran Justin Clark all the way from Afton Wy. We and fellow guide Ryan Bauer who was guiding Army Veteran Clint Miller from Colorado Springs ,Co spent the evening over on Tim Vanderhei's farm , deer were seen, some close enough ,just not the right ones. Army Veteran Sam Taylor was guided by Tim Theirs in the Waupun retired landfill and passed up a spike buck hoping Mr. Big would come by, but no . lol Elaine Vanderhei (Ma) Tim's 87 year old mom made a whole bunch more awesome lunch sacks for the Veterans to use as they are nice and quiet, no crunchy bags. Thank you Elaine. Friends Jim and Charlotte Feigel donated some sweet corn for the guys to snack on along with their marinated wood duck breast before our hunt last Oh and as always Nana Vanderhei supplied us with her homemade goodies too. And our old friend Vietnam Veteran John Kempen came down and supplied us 6 racks of ribs and green bean casserole for everyone to enjoy. (Dave Vogel spent most of the day cooking them, thanks Dave) . Lots of nocturnal deer activity last night, hopefully tonight everyone can get a shot .🇺🇸

2026 Wisconsin southern duck opener was a success with all three veterans bagging out on 3 wood ducks each! Thanks again to all the patriots that help make these hunts possible! Ox-Bo Marine LLC ferry service was on point this morning getting Sam and the track chair out to the island to hunt! The guys all had a blast and it was a beautiful morning to hunt ducks! Thanks again to Dakota Bamke, Austin Wagner and Nicole Wagner, Chad Buelter, Jason Labinski, Mike Kadinger Jr. and the amazing yellow labs doing the retrieves Sophie and Gus! This would not be possible without help from these generous supporters!
