Waupun Learn to Hunt Our local nonprofit that is dedicated to teaching youth and first hunters how to Hunt safely and ethically. We’ve been a part of this program for 16 years.

Our mission is to instill in our future generation the importance of responsible hunting practices and wildlife conservation. Our group took over
this program 10 years ago and moved it to Waupun. What most
people don’t know but our learn to hunt program was started by
Chad VandeBerg and originated in Rosendale. Our learn-to-hunt program introduces 20-30 new turkey hunters to
the woods every year.

This program is for first-time turkey hunters
that are 10 years old or older. Hunters must complete the classroom
portion before they are allowed to participate in the actual hunt. The class consists of simulated hunting situations using decoys and
blinds to simulate different hunting scenarios. Hunters also get to
pattern shotguns on turkey targets to prepare for the following
weekend& #39;s hunt. The Wisconsin DNR also supplies us with a
biologist to explain the history of the wild turkey in Wisconsin. DNR warden William Henke explains the rules and regulations of
our hunt and the regular season hunt and answers questions about
turkey hunting in general. We have the absolute best mentors! These mentors spend countless
hours scouting and getting things prepared for the following week's
hunt. But the most crucial part of our program is our landowners. This program would not be possible without our cooperating
landowners, and we get access to some of the best land in Wisconsin
because they love to see the smiles on these first-timers' faces. That
is truly what drives our program, it’s all about those smiles!
