It’s awkward writing this month’s Trestle board. I’ve missed the 2nd communication of January and am
now out of state. I am fortunate to have Brother Jeff Payton and Brother Mark La Chance as my Senior
and Junior Wardens and I will be indebted to them for their extra labor in my absence. It is certain all
the Brothers will work to ease the burden.
Besides enjoying the Ham Dinner Brother Reschenberg prepared, the Brothers attending the 1st
Communication of the year agreed on a number of goals and began work immediately. We all were
happy to start the New Year.
The Lodge also had a visitor, Jason Laven, from Rock River Lodge 108. Jason grew up in the area but had
never been in our Lodge. Sadly, he was in our area visiting his ailing father but he found time to attend
our communication. During the course of the evening it became apparent that, despite his relative
youth, he was a skilled Master Mason. He, in turn, was so favorably impressed with the Brothers’
enthusiasm for the Craft and the beauty of our Lodge that he wants to participate in our future Degree
work. We’re looking forward to taking him up on his offer.
The first communication in February is on the 11th and the second communication is on the 25th. As
always, there will be good food and fellowship starting at 6 and Lodge opening at 7. The Brothers will be
working on ritual, housekeeping, event planning, outreach to Brothers, a directory of Lodge Brothers
and building maintenance. They will also be inventorying everything used in Degree work. Do we need
new garments? It is a dream of mine to preserve our old slides (especially the glass ones) and convert
them to a medium that we can use. We need to protect and preserve the old Degree depictions hanging
in the Lodge Room. Kelly green cushions for the pews? Could we use a smart TV?
As is usual the Brothers will be busy.
