WVFD wanted to clarify a few things regarding the recent statement from our Governor! WE WILL NOT be giving any burn permits out at this time. In our area it is still extremely dry, if you see a fire or see someone burning please report it right away! Thank you!

WVFD has been extremely busy these past few days. On Thursday evening (3/12) we sent three firemen and one type 6 truck to the Morrill Fire, they returned early Friday morning. A second shift left Friday afternoon (3/13) that included another type 6 truck and two firemen, they returned early Saturday morning. Our final shift of guys left early this morning (3/15) and went to the Cottonwood fire, that included 4 firemen, a type 6 & a type 4 fire truck. They returned home this evening. We are extremely thankful for the Bley family hauling one our trucks up to the Cottonwood fire today.

Please be careful tomorrow, extremely dangerous conditions!

An extremely critical area for fire weather has been issued for parts of the area Tuesday. These are very rare, with the last one being issued back in April 2015 for the North Platte forecast area.

Near critical to critical fire conditions are expected Friday across southwest Nebraska as gusty northwest winds and low RH return to the region.

Firemen’s Appreciation Supper 2025

Hank Wicke & Gene Bartels were recognized for their time & dedication on the Rural Fire Board, Jon Sparrow & Nate Nordhausen have stepped into their roles on the board.
Shane Lawless was also recognized tonight for his 10 years of service on the department.
