Recognizing people who make a difference is one of the most rewarding activities for any organization. WSMA is proud to partner with WMEA to present the Wisconsin Award for Excellence in Teaching Music.

Wisconsin Music Educators Association (WMEA) sponsors several additional awards to recognize both individuals and groups who have sustained a commitment to music education and made a positive impact in the school, community or state.

Even if you do not submit a nomination, we urge you to express your appreciation to the many people who assist you in bringing quality music education experiences to your school and community.

WSMA Middle Level State Honors Music Project offers musically accomplished youth the opportunity to rehearse and perform with nationally-known conductors in a professional setting. Middle Level State Honors students receive their music in August and meet for the first time the day before their fall performance in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Music Conference.

This year, over 1100 students auditioned for the 313 available positions. Every student that auditions should be very proud of their accomplishment, as preparing for the audition is an honor in itself.

WSMA and WMEA have received increased numbers of inquiries regarding music selection, curricular decision-making and the roles our state music organizations play within these areas.

A message to the Wisconsin educational community has been released on respective websites from our WSMA & WMEA Executive Director Laurie Fellenz about the importance of supporting safe, inclusive music education through local educational leadership
