From YRC member Barb Schultz: "Jarmela Speta has always been one of a kind, though in our family there was an Aunt Jarmela who was her namesake. I grew up knowing her as the much older cousin who took me to special places when I made a rare visit to my Chicago relatives from my home on the farm in far northern Wisconsin. Jarmela showed me Colleen Moore’s dollhouse and the captured German sub at The Museum of Science and Industry. Another time, we had lunch at a place in Olde Town that let you throw peanut shells on the floor – for gosh sakes! I was about 9, and all three were equally memorable.
It wasn’t until I joined Sweet Adelines International that I realized how much she impacted other people’s lives as well through her love of singing, teaching, directing, coaching, and arranging barbershop harmony. Last night our director, Jennifer Johnson, pulled out this tag and I finally got a chance to sing one of her arrangements. Nothing like real old time barbershop!"
In loving memory of Jarmela Speta, who passed away this week on August 10th: the tag from "I Feel a Song Coming On." https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18MNFnFXE1/
