The Great American Expedition Comes to Effigy Mounds National Monument!
The Great American Expedition celebrates the communities, the partners, and Department of the Interior professionals who steward the natural resources that sustain our nation. Each stop of the Great American Expedition captures the story of the place and its caretakers, building a national record of stewardship that honors America’s first 250 years and looks ahead to the next. Activities can include cultural heritage celebrations, outdoor recreation, and projects that strengthen connections to public lands and enhance shared spaces.
Join park staff Saturday August 29th as we celebrate the National Park Service’s long tradition of protecting and managing the nation’s natural and cultural resources while celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
Earn your Effigy Mounds National Monument Junior Ranger badge by participating in a series of fun activities – atlatl, hiking, and more. At noon we will all gather for a picture with the Freedom 250 Expedition flag. All ages are welcome.
