Are you a veteran looking for a meaningful way to serve and support gospel outreach?

Lutheran Military Support Group is partnering with Mission Journeys and WELS Military Services to offer a volunteer opportunity designed especially for veterans who want to use their experiences in service to Christ and his church.

This trip will support mission work in North Carolina, with activities taking place in Jacksonville and possibly Wilmington, two communities where outreach opportunities are growing.

Trip details
• Dates: July 21–27, 2026
• Location: Jacksonville, N.C., and possibly Wilmington, N.C.
• Volunteers needed: 6–10
• Veterans are encouraged to apply

In Jacksonville, volunteers will serve alongside members of Ascension Lutheran Church, a congregation that includes a strong number of veterans and active‑duty military members who are deeply committed to outreach and relationship‑building in their community.

In Wilmington, volunteers may assist with groundwork and outreach connected to a new mission plant, where there is not yet an established congregation. This work would support local efforts to plan a new church in the area.

Learn more about this opportunity by contacting Mission Journeys Coordinator, Mr. Shannon Bohme, at [email protected] or by calling (651) 324-4218. You can also visit: wels.net/mission-journeys-volunteer-opportunity-in-north-carolina/

Today we remember the anniversary of Operation Overlord, also known as D-Day.

On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 American and Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in the largest seaborne invasion in history. Their courage and sacrifice helped liberate France and change the course of World War II and advance the cause of freedom.

We remember those who served, fought, and gave their lives in the face of tyranny. Their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

No matter how great you think or believe your sin to be, it is not so great that it is beyond the reach of God’s grace. The price tag for your sin is not so costly that Jesus’ blood could not pay for it.

June is PTSD Awareness Month. This month we want to explore the little known topic of moral injury.

“Moral injury is a wound of the soul, an inner conflict based on a moral evaluation of having inflicted or witnessed harm.. Moral injury can also result not only from active behavior, such as torturing or killing, but also from witnessing a close friend be slain.. It can also involve feeling betrayed by persons in authority.” Brock & Lettini, Soul Repair

Moral injury is a spiritual wound that is so deep that a person questions their very moral code or sense of self. Moral injury is a spiritual wound that can often accompany trauma. A common symptom of moral injury is the inability to forgive oneself. It is present in those who serve in military and first responder roles, but like trauma, it can impact anyone.
