Those now-familiar Chicago bike lanes might be on the verge of making a trip north, as Waukegan Main Street and a group of local bicycle enthusiasts look to bring the concept to their home community.

They weren’t there when I was flying around Chicago streets on a 10-speed bike from Sears back in the 1980s, but if you head down to the pedal-friendlier Windy City in the 2010s, you’ll see more than a few streets lined with dedicated bike lanes on the right side.

This project is an Integrated Transportation Plan, specifically to create a new Bicycle and Pedestrian plan for the City of Waukegan. The City of Waukegan and a to-be-determined consultant will work together to produce the final document.
