Join us as we honor and remember our fallen comrades.

The Waukee Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts invite the community to a Memorial Day Ceremony honoring American soldiers and military personnel who died in service to the country. The ceremony and wreath laying will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25 at the Waukee Cemetery on 6th Street. Bring a folding chair to sit.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Waukee Cemetery this evening to assist with the placing of almost 300 flags on each of our fellow veteran’s graves, followed by the saying of their name, and the solemn rendering of a hand salute. Here in Waukee, IA, their comrades continue to honor and remember their service to our nation. 🇺🇸

Waukee VFW Post 11517 participated in this years 5th annual VFW Day of Service by cleaning and polishing the Military Branches and Public Safety monuments in front of the Waukee Community Center. The monuments were placed to recognize and honor our local veterans and first responders. Thanks to all who were able to participate. Still Serving!

Thanks to all our members who attended the visitation ceremonies today for MAJ O’Brien and SGT Coady in West Des Moines and Johnston and rendered solemn honors to our fallen comrades. Two great Americans who will not be forgotten!

Great meeting tonight with an awesome group who can enjoy a laugh with each other as we conduct post business. We’ve got a full slate of nominations for our 2026-2027 post officer and staff positions as we prepare for elections next month. We also took time to honor and remember our recently fallen comrades and our plans to honor them upon their return to Iowa. Never forgotten…

Last nights monthly VFW Post Social Night filled the room at Los Tres Amigos in Waukee. Thanks to everyone who was able to join us and for the thoughts for “our absent comrades” and those currently serving in harms way.

Was great to share part of our last meeting with our Auxiliary at our new location (Waukee Community Center). Congrats to Matthias Deaver for winning our 2025-26 Post Voice of Democracy Scholarship. A special “Thank you” to the Montessori Children’s House (and our Auxiliary President) for honoring our veterans with all the handmade Valentines. Still Serving.
