A meal can help a child grow, support an older adult’s health, and bring reassurance to someone facing a difficult week. Everyone deserves access to food with dignity.

On World Food Day, we recognize the neighbors and partners working to make nourishment more accessible. Across Community Bridges, WIC, Family Resource Collective food distribution, Meals on Wheels, and the Child & Adult Care Food Program support people at different stages of life.

Indigenous histories are living histories.

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we recognize the histories, cultures, and leadership of Indigenous peoples throughout the Central Coast. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band is one of the Native communities with deep ties to the greater Monterey Bay region and continues to share its history and care for ancestral lands.

Respect calls us to listen to Native voices and learn the fuller history of the places we call home. Learn directly from the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band at amahmutsun.org/history.

Preparedness starts close to home.

This week, choose three actions:

• Prepare or refresh your emergency go-bag.
• Confirm your emergency contacts and evacuation plan.
• Check in with a neighbor who may need extra time, transportation or support.

A phone call, shared ride plan or translated resource can make a meaningful difference. When neighbors look out for one another, preparedness becomes community care.

¡Feliz Día de la Independencia de México!

Today we honor Mexico’s history, culture and enduring spirit—and celebrate the Mexican and Mexican American community members whose leadership, traditions, creativity and care strengthen the Central Coast.

Community thrives when people can take pride in who they are, share their heritage across generations and shape our future together.

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana!

From September 15 through October 15, we celebrate the many histories, cultures, achievements and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

Across the Central Coast, these communities lead, create, care, advocate and build a stronger future for us all.

Community Bridges is proud to work alongside families and neighbors with respect for language, culture and lived experience—not only this month, but every day.

September 11 is a day to reflect, remember, and honor the many lives forever changed by the events of that day.

We remember those who were lost, the families and loved ones who continue to carry their memory, and the countless people who responded with courage, compassion, and service.

Today, we honor their legacy by remembering the strength that can be found in community, kindness, and standing together. We will never forget.

Poverty is not a personal failure. It is shaped by barriers to affordable housing, food, health care, child care, transportation, education and fair opportunity.

Community Bridges responds to urgent needs while advocating for the policies and systems that help families and older adults build lasting stability.

Economic dignity means more than getting through today. It means having a genuine opportunity to thrive tomorrow.

Essential services are made possible by essential people.

This Labor Day, we honor the educators, drivers, health professionals, case managers, counselors, food-service teams, advocates, facilities staff and administrative teams whose skill and care strengthen our community every day.

Worker dignity means safe and respectful workplaces, fair opportunity, and meaningful recognition for the people who keep care moving.

To workers across Santa Cruz County and beyond: thank you.

Preparedness is an act of care.

An emergency plan helps protect more than property—it protects health, dignity and continuity of care. This National Preparedness Month, take one step today: know your evacuation zone, sign up for local alerts, prepare essential medications and documents, or confirm how you will reconnect with loved ones.

When we prepare together, our whole community is safer and more resilient.
