Lately when we say goodbye to someone I find myself seeking comfort with Colorado.❤️🐓 Colorado is one of our longest standing residents and although he has struggled with so many health concerns over the years he is still here with us today. He is our constant in what sometimes feels like a neverending wave of loss and change.

This week we said goodbye to Princess.💔

Earlier this year we took in Princess after all of the other goats in her herd passed away. Princess was already a senior girl with some health concerns so we knew that we would not have much time with her and we just wanted to give her gift of sanctuary for however long she had left. We are so grateful that we could do that for her but we miss her terribly.

As we celebrate our 10th anniversary as a sanctuary we are faced with the reality that these animals may live longer happier lives here at the sanctuary but they still do not live forever. And after ten years you would think the goodbyes might get easier. But the truth is that they only get more difficult as we are left grieving as many animals as we still care for.

We spent the weekend out in our community at Aromas Day.❤️

Aromas Day is a beautiful community organized event in the small town of Aromas not far from the sanctuary. For many years this event offered horse drawn carriage rides. But our cofounder Helbard stepped in to speak up for the horses and offer tractor pulled hay rides creating a new more ethical tradition.

We had so much fun and we hope everyone who jumped on the hay ride enjoying learning about our sanctuary and the important work we do right here in theis community.

Even on rainy days like today you can still find Bonnie out in the wallows.❤️🐽

We are so grateful for this little bit of rain during the fire season. Thankfully none of the fires have threatened the sanctuary yet this year. However our skys have been dark with smoke and we are devastated for our neighbors in Big Sur. And we still have a few months to go before we are in the clear.

Our amazing boy Adrian is turning nine years old this week.❤ He loves the animals and is such a big part of everything we do here at the sanctuary that he wanted to dedicate his birthday to celebrate them.🐴🐷🐓 So he has set a goal to raise $100 for every year of his little life proving to the world that vegan children are our future!! Please celebrate him with us and consider giving $9 for the animals to help him reach his birthday goal!

I cannot describe how much I miss Patsy just running around the sanctuary.💔 She was such a big part of this place and losing her has felt like losing a piece of who we are. This month we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary and yes that is an amazing accomplishment to rejoice in but it also comes with so much loss of so many friends along the way.
