Chicago native Louis Scalzo has released My Mother’s Kitchen: The Kitchens of Taylor Street, a heritage memoir devoted to preserving the cultural memory of Chicago’s Taylor Street Little Italy. Through vivid recollections of kitchens, families, and neighborhood life in the 1950s and 1960s, Scalzo reconstructs a community built by immigrants and sustained by tradition.

A new SIF-sponsored film releases tomorrow on PBS! 🇮🇹 🎬

Celebrate the start of Italian American Heritage Month with Amore nel Sannio (Love in the Sannio), a new 35-minute fiction-documentary from Emmy-nominated filmmakers Marylou and Jerome Bongiorno, taking viewers on a journey through the enchanting Italian region of Sannio.

Inspired by the iconic pairing of w**e and prosciutto, the film follows a budding romance set against the beauty of southern Italy and the dramatic presence of Mount Vesuvius.

OSDIA is especially proud to celebrate this release because Amore nel Sannio was supported in part by a grant from the Sons of Italy Foundation, OSDIA’s philanthropic arm. Supporting projects like this helps preserve, share, and celebrate the stories and culture of Italy for audiences everywhere.

Rest in peace to Giuseppe “Peppino” Mazzullo, the legendary Italian actor and voice behind the beloved Topo Gigio for more than four decades. His work brought joy to generations and became a cherished part of Italian television history. His voice may be gone, but the memories he helped create will live on forever. 🇮🇹🙏❤️

🇮🇹 Assisi comes to San Francisco.

Eight hundred years after the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, relics connected to Saint Francis and Saint Clare will travel from Assisi to the city that bears his name for an extraordinary six-week exhibition, free and open to the public.

The exhibition comes at a uniquely meaningful moment: the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis’s death, the 250th anniversary of San Francisco, and Italian Heritage Month—just days after October 4, Italy’s National Day of Saint Francis of Assisi. 🇮🇹

Joining the celebrations will be the San Francisco–Assisi Sister City Committee and an official delegation from Assisi led by Mayor Walter Stoppini and City Council President Annalisa Rossi, further strengthening the historic ties between the two cities.

This remarkable initiative has been made possible through the efforts of the Knights of Saint Francis of Assisi, together with the Archdiocese of San Francisco and partner institutions, in strengthening the historic connection between Assisi and San Francisco.

From Assisi to San Francisco: two cities united by the name of Francis and by a message of peace, fraternity, and dialogue that continues to resonate eight centuries later. 🇮🇹🤝🇺🇸
