Mason Monday!
Meet Nathan Bernard, member of Watseka Lodge #446.
Nathan, why did you want to join Freemasonry?
I was interested in joining Freemasonry at first simply to continue a legacy, be part of a family tradition, and spend time with my dad.
But I was also curious about so many great men in history having been Freemasons. The list of notable members goes on and on at length—key historical and political figures, founding fathers, presidents, international leaders, titans of business, innovation, exploration, arts, sciences, et al.
How is it Freemasonry is so special that these impressive men of various diverse backgrounds accomplished so much? What happens behind Masonic closed doors and with fellow brethren to “make these good men better”? Why do Freemasons seem to have such a high purpose and great list of achievements?
I keep asking questions. I keep searching for answers. And that is why I remain an active member in Freemasonry. At each lodge meeting, I see, hear, and learn something new every time.
In Freemasonry, I selfishly get to explore life's deeper meanings and feel more fulfilled and purposeful afterwards in a way that cannot be expressed adequately in words. “I walk in the footsteps of those who came before.” I doubt it’s a coincidence; it just so happens, along the way, I’ve made friends, helped in charitable services, and connected to the community.
