We had live music from local musicians at the Watonga ArtWorks building on Main Street during the Cheese Festival on Saturday. Lots of people came in to look at art pieces donated by Oklahoma artists for us to sell as a fundraiser for Phoenix Circle Foundation to support its mission to provide art activities and experiences in our community.
There was also art from the Plains Collective artists and an exhibit from the Ferguson Home Museum showing Oklahoma history and our community's cultural heritage. Watonga school children's coloring pages of the Ferguson Home were also displayed. I got to see lots of friends and meet new ones. Overall it was a great weekend!

During the 2026 Cheese Festival, there will be Art and Culture exhibits from the Ferguson Home Museum and the Plains Collective at the Watonga ArtWorks building at 111 E. Main St. next to the theater, on Friday afternoon and 9:00 am - 5:00 pm on Saturday. Watonga Artworks is a project of the Phoenix Circle Foundation, a non-profit that provides art activities and experiences for children and adults. Join us in celebrating the many cultures of Watonga!

Watonga children participated Summer Youth Program art day, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. They used their imagination to draw images for this July 4th, America's 250th Anniversary, using pastels on dark construction paper.

Children's art made during the Kiwanis summer youth program this month. They made "drip art" inspired by Jackson Po***ck, using marbles dipped in paint and then rolled over the canvas, completely filling the card with different colors of paint. Green tape is holding the card stock down, then removed once the paint was dry. I didn't get photos of their finished images but they were all great, each one unique. For the second project, they drew out a design and then painted their picture on a jigsaw puzzle. Once dry, the puzzle pieces can be taken apart and then reassembled.
This week we'll do patriotic images using pastels. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

Yesterday I got to attend the Yukon High School art department's annual Art Show. I am always overwhelmed by the effort and talent that was exhibited by art students. It was also national Teacher Appreciation Day. It takes very special people to take on the task of teaching young people at every level. Last night I was especially proud to learn that two graduates of the Yukon high school art department have gone on to pursue careers in Art and one as an art teacher. As founder of the Phoenix Circle Foundation and a longtime supporter of the arts, I am happy to see school districts support arts education programs.
