Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission The Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc.

whose mission is to “empower individuals to take greater responsibility for enhancing their community environment.” Our commission consists of twelve volunteer members, appointed by the Oconee County Board of Commissioners, who serve staggered three year terms. We also maintain an auxiliary members list of individuals who volunteer to support KOCBC with their time and talents. We are an affiliate of both Keep America Beautiful and the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation whose belief it is that every community is a clean, green and beautiful place to live. There are more than 70 affiliates in Georgia and over 686 nationwide programs. Georgia was the first state in the country to establish a statewide Keep America Beautiful affiliate program. Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission was established in August of 1990. Our responsibilities:
- Develop and execute environmental and educational outreach programs designed to increase citizens awareness and understanding of the need for individual environmental stewardship;
- Provide supportive educational materials for county programs such as Litter Control and Abatement, Solid Waste Management & Recycling and Beautification Projects;
- Conduct environmental & recycling programs and projects.

🦇 Bats are having a moment. And honestly? We're here for it.

Come hang with us at the 3rd Annual Oconee County Bat Festival.

📍 Heritage Park, Watkinsville GA

Come learn about Georgia's native bats, enjoy educational activities, vendors, costume contest, food, door prizes, and more! Be sure to stick around for the bat walk as the sun goes down.🌙🦇

Bats are more than cute Halloween decorations....they're important members of our ecosystem and excellent insect eaters. Come celebrate our favorite nighttime neighbors!

I know y’all are interested in following Isaias. So am I.

I have good news and bad news. Let’s get to it.

The good news is that Oconee County should only see ‘fly in the ointment’ levels of aggravation mostly confined to Saturday that include up to 3.5 inches of rain and 30 mph wind gusts. Expect this fun to begin overnight Friday and to end around Saturday midnight. You’ll be best served to find something to do inside such as play Checkers and watch UGA beat Alabama.

Speaking of UGA beating Alabama, if you go to the game and decide to hang out in the big city of Tuscaloosa, expect higher winds and more rain Saturday. That’s the bad news. However, conditions should start to improve around kickoff.

I don’t know the conditions around Tuscaloosa like I do Oconee. However, I can tell you that if you’re traveling for the game or staying home, you need to ensure that you have immediate access to sturdy shelter for the duration of the event. Never drive through standing water. Expect it to begin in the early morning hours of Saturday. I expect Isaias to move up through Alabama quickly.

On October 12th, join us for endless family fun surrounding everyone’s favorite fall animal: bats. You can expect food, arts and crafts, educational walks, vendors, a costume contest, and even a bat walk to end the night (where you’ll meet the bats that live at the park)! We hope to see you for this free night of trivia and trick-or-treating. 🦇🦇🦇

Don't let your recycling get spooky. Because the scariest thing at the recycling site isn't a ghost.

It's a bag full of things that don't belong in the recycling bin.😱

Please don't throw household trash, propane tanks, aersol cans, or plastic grocery bags in our recycle bins. Contamination is one Halloween trick we definitely don't want.🎃
