Teacher Reuse Store OPEN HOUSE is today🍎

It's the first Wednesday... and you know what 1st Wednesday means.. it is the TEACHER REUSE STORE OPEN HOUSE DAY. Today (and every 1st Wednesday of the month) in addition to teachers, we are open to artists, creatives, small business owners, nonprofits, college students, churches, daycare facilities, camp staff, social & medical workers. Come browse our shelves today, 12-6pm!

Reminder: No kids/helpers are allowed in TRS.

NOTE: We can not supply items for RAGE ROOMS or EBAY (and the like) resellers. We do ask that you only take things that you will be using yourself and please don't resell items from the Teacher Reuse Store.

Plastic #3 identifies the plastic as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a material commonly used in products like some motor oil bottles, detergent bottles, pipes, vinyl siding, and flooring.

Plastic #3 can be accepted in Oconee County’s recycling program in the form of small, rinsed-out bottles. If you have larger #3 plastic items, such as PVC pipe, flooring, unwashed bottles, or siding, please visit our Macon Highway Collection Site to dispose of them properly in our construction debris bins.

📍The Macon Highway Site is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Hey, we get it...accidents happen.💩😂 But let’s clear something up: diapers do not belong in the recycling bin. Clean, dirty, wet, dry, newborn-sized or adult-sized… they’re all trash.🚫♻️

Please give your diapers a proper send-off. Grab an Oconee County blue bag or toss them in your regular weekly trash pickup. Because as much as we love recycling… we draw the line at diapers.😅

Before you pack your kiddo’s lunchbox, take a moment to think about what you’re putting in it and where those items will end up when lunch is over. Do a quick lunchbox audit to see what can be recycled, reused, composted, or belongs in the trash.

Here’s what’s in our lunchbox today:

🥣 Salad → Eat the salad, keep the reusable container. Reusables are one of the best ways to reduce waste. There are all sorts of containers such as Bento boxes and patterned Pyrex bowls to make lunch more organized and fun!

🥗 Salad dressing → Pour over salad, keep the reusable container. This was from a local dollar store (bonus bargain find!)

🥤 Aluminum soda can → ♻️RECYCLE IT! Empty and rinse before placing it in your recycling bin.

🍴 Fork & spoon → Taken from the silverware drawer at home. Wash and reuse.

🍦 Yogurt → ♻️RECYCLE IT! Empty, rinse, and recycle the container.

🍎 Apple → If there’s a leftover core or other food scraps, compost it or save for livestock to snack on.

🍫 Chocolate → Delicious, but not recyclable.😋 Candy wrappers go in the nearest trash container.

💧 Water → And of course, don’t forget your reusable water bottle!

The takeaway?

A low-waste lunch doesn’t have to be complicated. Choose reusable containers and utensils when you can and know what belongs in the recycling bin and what doesn't.♻️

Litter across America has declined significantly since 2020, dropping from 152 pieces per person to 96.

That’s real progress. But 96 pieces per person is still too many.

Together, we can keep that number moving in the right direction and continue creating cleaner, greener, more beautiful communities.

Okay… technically we also have recycling, construction debris disposal, growing inert and metal piles, and plenty of ways to help keep Oconee County clean, green, and beautiful.♻️🌳💚

But let’s be honest, the biscuits are the real draw.😉

What is a bulk item and why does it cost extra?🤔

This is a question we get a lot at the Macon Highway Collection Site, so for today’s , let's address the bulky elephant in the room!🐘

A bulk item is generally anything larger than approximately 30" x 20" x 20" (about the size of a child’s ride-on toy.) Think couches, sectionals (by the piece), mattresses & box springs, large hutches or dressers, and oversized beanbags.

So, why the extra fee?

Bulk items take up significantly more space in the waste container, which means we can collect less material per load. We also have to account for potential bulk-item fees charged by the waste transfer facility. Those costs ultimately get passed along to the County.

Our recycling sites are a service provided by Oconee County to help keep our community clean, green, and beautiful.♻️🌳💚 While we know an extra fee isn’t always exciting, we appreciate your understanding and respect for the process.
