Noticed a whole lot more algae in the lake this year?

Us too!

The Biochar Initiative is PPLF’s latest project, utilizing Biochar, a chemical-free carbon material to remove unwanted, harmful pollutants from the lake.

As this Biochar product must be deployed through the entire shoreline, it is imperative the entire lake community take part in
making this initiative successful.

We need all the participation we can get!

With your help, we can start the journey to healthier, cleaner, and clearer lake by next summer ☀️🌞🐟

Please take the time to visit our website where you can learn more and sign up to participate in this Biochar project!

💧 Cleaner Water for Paw Paw Lake! 💧

On July 15, 2025, Watervliet Township approved funding to reduce runoff near the Orchard Hill Landfill, protecting Paw Paw Lake from pollution. 🚧

New roadwork and signs will also support Michigan’s clean boating laws to stop invasive species before they reach the water.

👏 Big thanks to township leaders, MDOT, and local partners for initiating this important measure.

Together, we can all preserve and protect Paw Paw Lake through science, education, and action!

We’re excited to share an update on the ongoing efforts to protect and preserve our beautiful Paw Paw Lake!

The Paw Paw Lake Foundation recently completed important maintenance on the Settling Pond located at the northeast corner of M-140 and Hagar Shore Road.

This project facilitated the removal of a significant amount of detritus material. It also will reduce the water flow speed and give sediment from the Branch and Derby Drain a place to settle in the future.

Why it matters: The Settling Pond is crucial in keeping Paw Paw Lake clean by capturing sediment, harmful nutrients, and agricultural runoff, and effectively stopping them from entering the lake.

Thank you to the SAD who contributed 50% of the cost, Trident for carrying out this project, and to all of our donors, supporters, and fellow lake lovers for your ongoing support!

A Big Win for Paw Paw Lake!

The Paw Paw Lake Foundation is excited to share an update on Paw Paw Lake Conservancy / 77 Acre Farm.

In the video below, you can see a remarkable quality of the water after 1.9 inches of rain over 30 hours. What would have previously been muddy, discolored runoff is now clear, thanks to the installation the PPLF Conservancy plantings completed this past fall.

None of this progress would be possible without the support of our incredible donors and community.

Thank you for helping us protect and preserve the beauty of Paw Paw Lake!

77-Acre Farm Update

More exciting news from the Paw Paw Lake Foundation!

The 77-Acre Farm has been planted with oats and radishes as a cover crop this fall.

In late winter, PPLF & US Fish and Wildlife Service will also scatter seed with a wildflower mix.

These cover crops and wildflowers will enhance soil health, prevent erosion, improve water quality, and capture carbon.
