Wake Boat Safety & Waterway Protection Guide
Help Protect Our Lakes
The Waterville Lake Association is committed to preserving the beauty, health, and safety of our lakes for everyone to enjoy. To support this effort, a professional mapping company has identified suggested areas for wake boat surfing activities.
These recommendations are designed to help reduce shoreline erosion, protect sensitive habitats, and preserve the natural ecosystem of our waterways.
Lake Recommendations
Lake Tetonka
On Lake Tetonka, the map highlights suggested wake surfing areas in dark purple. These designated locations are recommended because they help minimize wave impact on shorelines, docks, aquatic vegetation, and wildlife habitats.
Lake Sakatah
At this time, there are no recommended areas for wake boat surfing on Lake Sakatah due to environmental and shoreline considerations.
Why These Guidelines Matter
Large wakes created by surf boats can have significant impacts on our lakes, including:
Increased shoreline erosion
Damage to native aquatic plants
Disturbance to fish spawning areas and wildlife habitats
Sediment disruption that affects water clarity and quality
Increased stress on docks, lifts, and neighboring watercraft
By following the suggested wake surfing areas, lake users can help protect:
Native habitats
Water quality
Shorelines and property
Recreational safety for all users
The long-term health of our lakes
How You Can Help
Please operate wake boats responsibly by:
Following the recommended wake surfing zones
Staying a safe distance from shorelines and docks
Avoiding shallow water areas
Being respectful of anglers, swimmers, kayakers, and other boaters
Reducing wake in sensitive or congested areas
Together We Can Make a Difference
Your cooperation helps preserve these lakes for future generations. Thank you for supporting responsible boating practices and helping protect the natural beauty of our water community.
