Over the last two days multiple Waterville Professional firefighters, along with members of Winslow Professional Firefighters Association IAFF Local 5479, Skowhegan Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4618, Professional Firefighters of Hermon, IAFF 5458 and other agencies came together for peer support training by The Resilient Responder.

This training was hosted by Waterville Fire and allowed us to come together and learn more about mental health in emergency services!

Big thank you to Jason Mills and his team for the training and education!

Super Bowl Sunday is all about great food and good friends — but we also want everyone to stay safe and make it home after the game. Here are a few important game-day safety tips:

•Cooking Safety• Stay in the kitchen while you’re cooking — don’t leave food or grills unattended. Grease fires can start quickly if you step away. • Check that smoke alarms and fire extinguishers are ready before guests arrive. • Keep flammable items like napkins and decorations away from stovetops, grills, and open flames.

•Plan for a Safe Ride Home• If alcohol is part of your party, plan ahead with a designated sober driver. Don’t drink and drive — it’s one of the most important plays in the game of safety. • Use ride shares, taxis, or let guests stay the night if they can’t drive safely.

Every year on Super Bowl Sunday, the chances of impaired driving increases — but a little planning can make sure everyone enjoys the game and wins off the field too. Let’s keep our community safe this weekend!
