Local 1608 has been busy serving our community!

The members of Waterville Professional Firefighters Local 1608 have been working hard to keep up with the needs of our community while also answering the call for mutual aid in neighboring communities.

From structure fires and emergency medical calls to countless other incidents, our members have been putting in the work around the clock. Mutual aid is a critical part of the fire service—we’re there for our neighbors when they need us, just as we know they’ll be there for us when we need them.

These photos are just a small glimpse of what our members encounter and the work that goes on behind the scenes.

We’re proud to serve Waterville and assist our neighbors, and we’re grateful for the continued support of the residents we serve.

Waterville Fire - Rescue

Today, members of Waterville Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 1608 and the Waterville Fire Department gathered in Portland to participate in the Tunnel to Towers 5K.

It was an honor to come together alongside fellow first responders and community members to remember the heroes of September 11th and honor the sacrifices made by firefighters, police officers, military members, and their families.

The Waterville Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 1608 are gearing up for our 2026 Emergency Safety Program Booklet, and we’re looking for local businesses to help make it a success!

Keeping Our Community Safe—Every Day

Since Sunday, the members of Waterville Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 1608 have been hard at work serving our community.

Here’s a look at what we’ve accomplished:

• 132 calls for service
• 6 mutual aid ambulance responses
• 1 mutual aid fire response
• Multiple hours of training to keep our skills sharp and ready for any emergency
• Multiple business inspections to help prevent emergencies before they happen

Mutual aid is a vital part of emergency services. By responding to neighboring communities, and assisting private ambulance services when requested—and knowing they’ll respond to ours when needed—we help ensure that every community has the personnel and resources necessary to handle emergencies safely and effectively. Working together makes all of our communities stronger and better protected.

Whether we’re responding to emergencies, assisting neighboring departments or private ambulance services, training to improve our capabilities, or working proactively through fire prevention, our members remain committed to protecting the citizens we proudly serve.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area. Hot temperatures and high humidity can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses if precautions aren’t taken.

Us at Waterville Professional Firefighters Local 1608 encourages everyone to take a few simple steps to stay safe:

- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

- Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.

- Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the afternoon.

- Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

- Make sure pets have access to fresh water and shade, and never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.

Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, has a high body temperature, or stops sweating, call 911 immediately.

Please help keep yourselves, your families, and your neighbors safe by taking the heat seriously.

A big THANK YOU to Dakotah from Girl Scout Troop 393!

Dakotah stopped by the firehouse this evening with a special mission to give back to those who serve her community. She generously donated Girl Scout cookies to our firefighters as a thoughtful way of saying thank you for everything they do.

We are incredibly grateful for Dakotah’s kindness, generosity, and community spirit. It’s inspiring to see young people making a difference and supporting those around them.

Thank you, Dakotah, for helping make our community such a wonderful place! We can’t wait to enjoy these delicious treats!
