For too long, veteran su***de has been treated like something people whisper about, something uncomfortable that families are expected to quietly carry behind closed doors.

Even now, the word su***de can make people shift in their seats. Some avoid saying it altogether, while others try to explain it away, debate it, or place conditions around who “counts” and who doesn’t.

Was it during service?
After service?
Combat-related?
Years later?

Meanwhile, families are left carrying unimaginable grief while also fighting the pain of silence, stigma, and feeling invisible.

At Green Star Families of America, we are not going to brush this under the carpet. We are going to talk about veteran su***de, shine a light on the families left behind, and continue advocating for recognition, compassion, and understanding for every family walking this road.

Because losing a veteran to su***de is not a “gray area” for the people who loved them. The loss is real. The sacrifice is real. The heartbreak is real.

No mother, father, spouse, sibling, or child should ever feel erased because the wounds were invisible, and no family should feel ashamed to say how they lost someone they love.

Silence has never saved lives. Conversation, awareness, support, and recognition can.

These families matter. Their stories matter. And we will keep speaking about it — openly, honestly, and without apology. 💚
