April is Child Abuse Awareness/Prevention month, and here at the Watertown Police Department, we're committed to raising awareness and promoting prevention efforts. That's why we're excited to announce our upcoming training session on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) - and it's open to the public!

In this informative session, participants will gain valuable insights into the potential traumatic events that children may experience, which can have a profound impact on their brain development and stress response. Understanding ACEs is crucial for creating a supportive environment for our community's children and helping them thrive.

Moreover, this training isn't just informative - it's also beneficial for professionals! It counts as continuing education/CEUs for social workers.

Do you have questions or want to secure your spot? Contact us, and remember to register using the QR code on the attached flyer. Let's come together to make a positive difference in our children's lives!

Powerful words to help.

Words matter. Especially when we're going through really hard things.
Intentional words in touch moments can re-establish calm and feelings of safety in ways that last far beyond the situation.

Please join us next week in recognizing TEN-4 day.

Bruising is often an early warning sign of more serious physical abuse. As part of TEN-4 awareness day, this training is designed to recognize concerning bruising locations for abuse using the TEN-4-FACESp acronym. This is a helpful tool for mandatory reporters who have frequent contact with children including childcare providers, medical professionals, school staff, and first responders.

Providing education is critical in working to keep the children and families of South Dakota safe.

04/14/2021

South Dakota communities play a key role in supporting families and ultimately in ending child abuse and neglect. April has been named Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month and DSS is asking schools, faith-based organizations, businesses, and community groups to consider how they can partner with families to safeguard child health and well-being.
