Meet the 2026 Assistant Camp Director, Cassidy Deuink!

Cassidy is excited to be serving as the Assistant Director for camp this summer. Cassidy brings five years of experience with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County, where she has had the opportunity to work with youth in a variety of educational and recreational settings. This will be Cassidy’s third summer at camp, where she developed a passion for creating memorable experiences, fostering personal growth, and helping campers build confidence and friendships. For the past two years, Cassidy has served as a Site Supervisor for a 4-H afterschool program, overseeing daily operations, supporting staff, and creating a safe, engaging environment for children and families. Throughout her time working with youth, Cassidy has learned the importance of leadership, teamwork, adaptability, and building positive relationships. As Assistant Director, Cassidy is committed to supporting staff, ensuring a fun and safe camp environment, and helping every camper have an unforgettable summer experience. Cassidy is looking forward to working with all of you and making this camp season a successful and rewarding one!

Meet the 2026 Seasonal Camp Director, Colleen Yarnell!

Colleen’s passion for working with youth began right after high school when she worked as a summer camp counselor at a nature camp, helping children explore the outdoors and build confidence through hands-on experiences. Since then, she has had the opportunity to work with middle school students in a variety of roles. Colleen spent two school years at South Jefferson Middle School—one as an educator and one as a site supervisor. During college, she also served as a mentor in the Transitioned Age Youth (TAY) program, where she led students in high-adventure activities while supporting their personal growth and development. Colleen explains that these experiences have strengthened her commitment to helping young people learn, grow, and reach their full potential! Colleen is looking forward to a fun, exciting, and memorable summer at camp and can't wait to meet everyone and make great memories together!

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County is deeply appreciative of Sabrina DeRue’s dedication and commitment to 4-H Camp Wabasso as the Camp Director for several years! Under her leadership Sabrina brought ACA accreditation to camp – the highest national camping accreditation. These standards have brought 4-H Camp Wabasso to new heights. Alongside accreditation, Sabrina strengthened programming, professional development for camp staff, and significantly helped with raising funds for scholarships and other camp related purposes. We will miss her and we wish her the very best!
