Sarah's Treasures Rescue

We are a small rescue, incorporated in the state of SD, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming dogs and puppies.

Sarah's Treasures Rescue is incorporated in the state of South Dakota. We have no paid staff or workers and 100% foster home and volunteer operated. All donations go directly to the pets. As of April 29, 2010, we have been approved by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Sarah's Treasures Rescue does NOT have a shelter building. Most of our pets are in foster homes. Our foster families provide valuable insight into each pets' personality, temperament, and unique features which help place him/her in the best home possible. Our mission is to provide all animals a loving, forever home. We work with owners and pets alike to make the world a better place for both. We are working hard to establish a veterinary fund to provide every animal with essential vet care including spay/neuter to lower the unwanted pet population. Our goals are to unite humans and animals for lifelong companionship; to provide information to those in need; and to educate all in the responsiblity of a lifelong pet.

Dear Future Family,

I have a few things I'd like you to know about me. ❤️

I'm Marshmallow, and I'm trying really hard to be the best boy I can be.

Sometimes I'm shy when we first meet. New things can make me unsure, but when I learn your routine and realize I'm safe, I start to relax. I love treats, gentle pets, and cuddles with people I trust.

I'm kennel trained, house trained, learning my manners, and getting pretty good at walking on a leash. I like other dogs, adore kids, and don't mind riding in the car.

I do need a home without cats, though. That's one temptation I'm better off avoiding!

I don't need every day to be an exciting adventure. I'd be happy with walks, a little playtime, a predictable routine, and people who will help me keep growing.

I'm ready to belong to someone.

🐾 DO YOU HAVE A DOG WHO NEEDS A BEST FRIEND? TURKEY MIGHT BE YOUR GUY! ❤️

Some dogs feel braver with a buddy by their side, and Turkey is one of them!

This 2-year-old, 40–45 lb sweetheart gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes. Having another friendly dog around helps him feel more comfortable and confident, and he'd love a canine companion to play with and share life's little adventures. 🐶🐶

Turkey is also:
✨ Great with children
✨ House-trained and kennel-trained
✨ Good on a leash
✨ Smart and eager to learn
✨ Happy with walks, fetch, AND lazy movie nights

He can be shy when meeting new adults, so he'll need a family who lets him warm up at his own pace. But once you're in his circle of trust, Turkey is a loyal friend worth waiting for. ❤️

🐱 Cats may be too tempting to chase, so a cat-free home is recommended.

🚨 Sookie has a serious problem. 🚨

There are squirrels. They are outside.
They are apparently living their BEST LIVES.

And Sookie has decided this is unacceptable. 😂🐿️

Our approximately 2-year-old girl is ready for a family who appreciates a dog with energy, personality, and a strong opinion about backyard wildlife.

Sookie loves people of ALL ages, enjoys hanging out with other dogs, and would happily spend her days running, playing, exploring, chewing on a good bone 🦴 and supervising everything happening outside.

She's working on her manners and leash skills, and she's getting better every day. She can get overexcited and forget herself sometimes, but she's learning!

Cats? She's doing okay, but she'll chase a cat that runs. So confident cats who aren't interested in participating in a high-speed chase would be best. 😆

What Sookie really needs is her person. Her family. Her forever. ❤️

🚨 THIS IS WHY WE DON'T GIVE UP ON THE DOG WHO IS STRUGGLING. ❤️

When Rocky first went home, he was scared.

Not mean. Not unfriendly. Just really, really scared.

Even going potty was a challenge. He wouldn't explore the yard, and the goofy personality his family had fallen for?

It was hiding.

But his family didn't give up.

❤️ They gave him time.
❤️ They trusted the process.
❤️ They celebrated the tiny victories.

We started with scent games to get Rocky using his nose and exploring. When basic obedience was too much, we backed up even further.

“YES!” = TREATS! 🎉

Sometimes you have to start smaller than you ever expected.

We even extended his trial period because we didn't want his family worrying about a clock. We believed in them, and we believed in Rocky.

Then came the wins:

🐾 No accidents
🐾 A consistent potty routine
🐾 Less nervous paw licking
🐾 Responding to “sit”
🐾 And eventually... STACKING COMMANDS! 🎉

Then something even better happened.

Rocky started being Rocky.

The zoomies came out. 😂
He wanted to play.
His quirky personality returned.

And those couch cuddles? Amazing. ❤️

His family knew:

This was their dog. 🏡❤️

This is why we work with every dog as an individual.

Sometimes progress looks tiny.

Sometimes it's simply feeling safe enough to potty. Sometimes it's sniffing the yard. Sometimes it's learning that YES means something good is coming.

And sometimes it's the first zoomie that tells you...

“There you are, Rocky.” ❤️

Sarah often says bringing a rescue dog into a new home can be like dropping someone into a foreign country where you don't know where you are, don't speak the language, and aren't sure what's happening.

Rocky was living that experience.

But his family gave him time, patience, and trust.

They didn't give up when things got hard.

They waited for the dog underneath the fear to come out.

And they found him. ❤️

Sometimes happily ever after doesn't happen overnight.

Sometimes it happens one tiny victory at a time. 🐾

🥺 Oliver wants to know… when is it going to be his turn?

He’s watching his friends find their families while he’s still here, giving us those sad eyes. 💔🐶

We know a few things about Oliver:

💛 Clingy? It’s his superpower. Once you’re his person, he wants to be right there with you.

🐇 Tiny critters? He has a stronger prey drive, especially for rabbits, gophers, and birds. And yes… he has actually caught birds mid-flight. 😲🤯

👋 New people? He can be a little aloof at first, but once he knows you, he absolutely loves his people.

Oliver isn't perfect. He's just waiting for someone who thinks he's perfect for them. ❤️

🐾💛 Pepper just needs her guide.

Pepper is a sweet, shy 1½-year-old Heeler/Aussie mix who is learning that the world can be a pretty wonderful place.

She can be a little unsure in new situations, but give her routine, patience, and a confident dog to show her the ropes… and Pepper’s personality starts to sparkle. ✨

She LOVES other dogs and really thrives when she has a canine buddy beside her. She’s playful, takes corrections well, and seems to gain confidence from having another dog around.

Once she settles in, you’ll see the affectionate, playful girl hiding behind that shy first impression. 💕

Pepper is looking for:

💛 Patient humans
📅 A home that can give her the routine she loves
